Horrid School

My alarm clock was the last thing I wanted to hear in the middle of the dream I had. I groaned as I turned to my side, slamming the top so it would stop screaming. Six- fifty. School starts soon.

I drowsily sit up and rub my eyes. As I go to stand, I about fell over. The dresser and wall was my base as I made my way into the bathroom. Showers. They made waking up so much easier.

Towel wrapped around my waist, I walk into my room, my mouth stinging with mint. My hair didn't take long to dry as I towel ringed it, hanging it up when I finished. I checked my clock. Seven-twenty. Twenty minutes.

After finding my Attila shirt and black torn jeans, I slid on my hoodie, and made my way downstairs.

"Morning," I say, knowing there'd be no response to everyone in the kitchen. I finished my monster I had stored in the back of the fridge and slid my backpack over my shoulder, walking out the front door.

Have a good day is what I wanted to hear. But the silence was all that was said. I locked the door and started walking up the sidewalk towards the hellhole people are bound to. Pulling out my phone from my back pocket, I slide in my headphones and blast Shadow Moses by Bring Me The Horizon, looping the cord underneath the hoodie and sliding my phone into my back pocket to hide it.

Counting each line of the sidewalk, despite the cracks, was the only entertaining thing to do besides jam out to music. There was seventy-two and counting until a headphone fell out of my ear.

"Cheap pieces of junk," I grumbled as I went to go put it back in, but instead, I froze. The large bushes next to me rustled wildly, no wind to be felt. I hit the bush, thinking it'd be a rabbit or something, and only heard a human yelp. My curiosity grew even more as I saw a girl. Her eyes met mine, fire burning in them darkly. They faded in and out of white as she stared transfixed. Her hair was purple with black fire tips and it was very long, hiding the right side of her face.

"Um. Are you lost, or something?" I ask, and her eyes only widened. She looks like she was going to move but only stay still, perched on her knees and hands.

"Do you need some-" as I moved closer to go and put my hand out she scampers away, gasping.

What was a girl doing in a bush? I asked myself. Weird..

Shrugging, I continued to school.

"Hey, look who's back!" I heard someone taunt and kept my head down. "What? Didn't get enough last year?"

"Fuck off," I said under my breath as I continued walking.

"Ohhhh, look at the runt who gained courage!" Lucas grinned. His group laughed. I didn't understand why they chose me.

"Purple-haired weirdo!" another laughed. I kept walking until I ran into something.

"Where are you going?" Lucas asks, pushing me to the floor. My backpack slides off as I hit the pavement, back first. This is great, I said to myself.

Perfect first day of school.

They all walked away laughing as soon as the bell rang, and I groaned. Late. So perfect.

I got up and slipped on my backpack, walking into the school.

"Sir," the teacher scowled as I entered the classroom, holding the schedule in my hand,  "have any trouble finding the place?" Some laughed as the old hag stand leaning against her desk, hair fiercely pulled back with grey spots and sharp glasses, and a weird too formal outfit of an office shirt, heels, and a skirt. Her grin was sickening.

"Oh, no no no, miss. I went to the office and they told me to go to hell. Guess I found it." I shrugged as I plopped into my seat. Everyone started laughing.

"Mr- oh, I forgot your name, its so pointless." she growled. I leaned back, my eyebrow cocked. As soon as her back was turned I stuck up both my middle fingers.

After endless classes, which seemed like hours, the bell finally rang, and I ran out of class, dodging my way through the crowded hallway and going to my locker.

Before I even finish my combination, my head is forced back by something gripping my hair and slamming my face onto the locker. My knees give out as I fall, leaning against the walls. My left eye was closed as I try and look up at the group of shadows.

"Awh, he looks sad!" Richard laughs, "Nothing new." he grins as he kicks me.

"Break it up," someone yells while the boys grow silent. The voice was so familiar.

My older brother.

"James," he says, kneeling next to me, observing my eye. He stands up and lays a punch directly onto Lucas' face, causing everyone in the hallway to run. Not only was Alexander big, but he was about the strongest here.

Alex holds out his hand for me and I accept, standing up weakly. My face felt like it was being burned off.

"I'm sorry my friends are dicks, they normally know to leave you alone." he sighs, examining my face again, "I'm bringing you to the nurse."

"Not Nancy!" I groaned. Alex, despite my protests, scooped up my backpack, along with myself, and carried me towards the office. Ugh. This lady was still here.

"Good after noon, you two." Nancy smiled as he set me down on one of he cots. She got up, already knowing something was wrong with me, and moved in front of where I sat with my head down. "What happened this time?"

"Lucas and his gang," Alex covered for me. I kept my head down.

"Alright dearie, lemme see." she sighed. I glanced up at her but looked back down. Alex only nodded when I looked at him, so I put my head up enough for Nancy to see, my hair covering the hurting side. She pushes my hair out of my face and I wince slightly, keeping my eyes closed.

"Dearie, I'll give you an icepack to go home with, and I'll excuse you from school tomorrow so you're not seen with that." Nancy tells us, wrapping a pouch from the freezer in some paper towels and handing it to me. I nod, holding it onto my eye.

The walk home was silent. I didn't dare speak because I knew Alex was a bit frustrated.

Finally the silence broke. "James.. You can't keep drawing attention like this."

"I didn't do anything, I was simply walking." I countered.

"Walking or not, you pissed them off."

"How? What could I have possibly done to piss anyone off?"

"I don't know what you did this time. But I suggest you stop so this doesn't happen again."

"I didn't do anything, Alexander! Everyone is just a bitch to the jock's runt of a brother!" I yell.

"Watch your language!"

"Really? That's all you're worried about now?!" I throw the ice pack onto the sidewalk, and both of us come to a stop. "Why wont you just fucking listen?!" I run away into the bushes where I last saw that girl, evading Alex as much as possible.
