I threw the food out and gathered myself. Drawing in a deep breath, I walked down the halls. Everyone stared at me whispering, just like the first day I was here.
"...I heard they cheated on the science quiz to..."
"...she totally influenced him to ask her out by..."
"...heard she was kicked out of her old school because she was a sl..."
"...can't believe she's taking him down to her level."
So that's what the rumors were. I cheated on the test to get Jacob alone with me to convince him to ask me out. I rolled my eyes and kept on walking, ignoring their stares.
How did the rumors spread so fast? Who could have started them?
Jacob.
He was the only one who could have started them. My façade exploding and my anger boiled. Why would he want to start them? Oh, boy; as soon as I get my hands on him, he's dead!
Of course, he skipped math class that next period. Like a potential criminal missing his court date, he was presumed guilty as charged.
No one had seen him at all for the next five periods and my asking everyone I knew didn't help my case either. Finally, lunch came and still I didn't see him. I sat half listening to Tori talk about a concert she was going to. All I could think about was where Jacob went, and I really couldn't understand why.
"...so do you want to come? It'll be by Thompson Lake at seven thirty on Friday. I've got an extra ticket, too." Tori looked at me hopefully.
I had no idea what she was talking about, really, but I played it off.
"Sure, I'll go with you." Her eyes lit up with excitement.
Great, I'll pick you up at your house. Just give me the directions and we'll be go to go." I gave my address and the directions to it from the school. By the time I explained it all out to her, the bell just rang for eighth period.
"Hey, Tori, could I ask you a favor?"
Her face dropped and I knew she could tell I was up to no good.
"Um, sure, what is it," she asked.
I took a breath and muttered the words so only she could hear.
"Could you cover for me? I'm leaving." She looked at me like I was dumb. "Look, just tell anyone who asks that I was taken out of school by my dad before lunch was over; they'll never know."
She sighed and rubbed her temples.
"I swear, if I get caught, I'm going to kill you."
I hugged her tightly, ignoring the fact that she tensed, like she does every time.
I got in the car, trying to be as discreet and I could with the old rusty car as I could. Really, you should try it. It's nearly impossible to get in without making a sound. What sucks even more is when I turned to engine on.
Ha! My car didn't purr, she roared! I would bet my life that she could put a lion to shame. Somehow, I got out of the school parking lot without getting caught, God only knows how.
I had no idea where I was heading, I was just driving. Eventually, I ended up on the road to Jaidon's house. That was probably the best place to look first. Although, he was still probably back at school, maybe Jacob was here, by himself. I shuddered at the thought of me being alone with him. That boy has serious issues.
