"So, happy anniversary.” The words sounded strange to me as I heard them, and I looked over at Shifter with an inquisitive expression on my face.

"Happy what?” Came my reply, my brow arched in confusion. I had
been quite content sitting on the windowsill of his room, my legs folded into my lap and a book open, reading by what light the moon afforded mixed with the distant lamp near the center of the room. It had been a fairly laid back day for us both; the result of recovering from a long, tiring mission the day before. The Vixen case had dragged us all the way to Antarctica when Headmistress Frost picked up a flare of activity, and for an entire day the team had bundled up and suffered the elements in a fruitless search for nothing. The team would have been upset, had they not simply been grateful to be back home under warm covers and in a heated building.

Because of a miserable yesterday, Shifter and I took the day off from our studies, and had enjoyed it in our own ways. We stayed close to each other for the occasional contact or conversation, but mostly we kept to ourselves, minding our own business and simply sharing a space with a friendly body.

It was still comforting; having someone nearby on a day of recovery, even if I tended to recover faster than most people. The day had been quite relaxing until those words came to me from across the room, and I gazed to where Shifter sat on the bed, flipping through a magazine with a small smirk on his face.

"Anniversary. You remember, don’t you?” he chuckled, and gave me a look of fake offense. “It’s been six months. I guess that means you’re not preparing any big, fancy surprise for us.”

"Six months is not an anniversary.” I responded with a small scowl, though my offense was not genuine. A part of me inwardly worried if I had skipped into some sort of relationship taboo; forgetting a landmark that I never actually knew about. I chose my words with measured patience, in on the off chance that he was genuinely upset over it.

"...happy anniversary... Christian. Would you like to go out to eat somewhere?”

"Nah.” Shifter just shrugged as he dug into his jeans, moving to pull out his phone. While he leaned back to scroll through, it I studied his actions, watching him with curious eyes. I was dressed in one of his T-shirts, as I tended to do on the days where I could afford to rest around his quarters, and a pair of loose, baggy jeans that were more determined towards comfort rather than sexiness. My feet were bare and I had been keeping my hair back in a loose ponytail; thoroughly determined to be as lazy as possible after being caught in a perpetual blizzard the day before. I listened to Shifter's next words, not paying them much heed until they suddenly sunk in with a terrifying realization.

“I’m just gonna celebrate by putting that dirty picture of you up on Facebook.”

"What?!” I snapped at him, my book slamming closed as I regarded what he just said. A part of me doubted he would, but by the same token I had already done things with him I would have doubted him requesting. Under the influence of my relationship with Shifter, I had already had sex in a public place, let my body become a plaything for his, and most unlikely of all, allowed myself to open emotionally. I had quickly come to learn that with him, it was not wise to doubt his capability for causing chaos in my life.

“You are not. Are you? You cannot. The Headmistress would kill you. I would kill you. Several of us would kill you.” I nodded sternly in warning, and Shifter just gave a little shrug as he continued to toy with his phone.

“Nah, I’m gonna. You won’t kill me, you like me too much.” He sounded sure of that, and my eyes narrowed in a pouty scowl as he read my bluff. “Maybe if I put it up on Facebook for everyone to see, you won’t forget the date anymore? Everyone will know that ‘Oh, November 14th, that was the day I saw X-23 covered in cum with her legs spread.”
