The alarm on my phone buzzed on my nightstand, alerting me to wake up. I turned the alarm off and walked into my bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror; damn another day of school. I brushed my teeth, washed my face and turned my shower on. I waited a few seconds to let the water heat up, then I stepped in.

I let the water run over my body as the heat soothed me. I washed my body slowly, savoring the amazing feeling of the water against my skin. I rinsed off and turned off the shower head. I wrapped my body in a towel walking back into my room, going into my closet.

Today's outfit was simple; a t-shirt, acid-washed skinny jeans and my black converse. I threw my curly hair into a ponytail, and grabbed my backpack and phone. I took one look into my mirror and walked out of my room.

I jogged down the stairs into the kitchen. My mom was cooking breakfast as my dad drank his coffee, looking over what seemed to be another law case.

"Mornin', Sweetheart." my dad greeted me.

"Morning, Dad. Is that a new case?" I asked him curiously.

"Yeah, some guy, around my age, is a former drug addict who's trying to get his kids back, but the mom isn't having it." He explained.

"Who are you defending? The mom or dad?" I questioned him.

"The mom, of course. I wouldn't be able to trust a former drug addict with kids he never took care of. Especially if he wasn't there for over ten years." He stated.

"True. Well good luck on that, Dad." I told him, turning to my mom. She had gym clothes on and headphones in her ears. I slightly tapped her on the shoulder, and she turned around quickly taking an ear bud out of her one of her ears.

"Morning, honey! Ready for school?" She piped as she took three plates from the dark brown cabinet.

"Come on, Mom. It's school we're talking about. What sixteen year-old is ready for that?" I said, arching one eyebrow.

"The really, really bright ones who have an amazing life ahead of them." She replied.

"Well that's biased, because this really, really bright one would rather not even think of school." I retorted.

"Is that so? Hm." She smiled handing me my plate. I sat next to my dad and she sat across from him. We ate in silence until my dad spoke up.

"I gotta get going. It's gonna to be really busy today at the office. Bye, Jamie." my dad said, kissing me on my forehead and walked over to my mom.

"Bye, Heather." He smiled, kissing her lips. He grabbed his suitcase and left out the house. I ate the last of my breakfast in shock. Just last night they were fighting. My mom noticed my surprised look.

"What?" She asked with a light blush feathered on her cheeks.

"Oh nothing. You guys are just adorable and complicated at the same time." I stated. It was true. I can't remember the last time they actually kissed; actually smiled.

"I guess, Jamie." Mom said chuckling.

"Well I'm guessing someone gave up the goodies, yeah?" I smirked at her.

Her mouth opened in shock, but the deep red blush on her cheeks answered my question clearly. She smacked me on the arm as I walked out of the kitchen.

"Now get your little butt to school." She said.

The drive to school wasn't too long. A few red lights, but no traffic. I parked my car in the student parking lot and went into the building. Kids going every which way flooded my vision. I tried looking over peoples' heads, but being a Smurf compared to everyone else made it pretty hard.
