I woke up that evening, after a good rest, to the sound of the sparrows,

Standing beside the window of my room.

I woke up, got ready to go for tutions,

And then walked outside the house.

Then I remembered something, that I forgot my keys. I didn't know where it was.

I went back in to get it. This is when everything felt strange.

I unlocked the front door cautiously,

Just like how a thief would try to sneak.

I went in.

As I entered, I switched on the lights.

There came a sudden thud, and everything went off.

I thought to myself, "What a great time for a power cut."

As I walked, I could hear my footsteps.

How bizarre it was to hear it in a quiet house, where everyone's asleep,

Dreaming about the best times of their life.

And me, trying to not get freaked out because of the serene, yet quiet and crooked atmosphere.

That's when I remembered a nursery rhyme,

"There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.

He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.

He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,

And they all lived together in a little crooked house."

I remembered my friend telling this to me: "I am sure even if the crooked man lived in a crooked house, he would have been happy!"

But now, all those words seemed untrue.

After all, it was my status that made me doubtful.

I entered into the kitchen, then the closet,

To check if the keys are there.

But to my dismay, it was nowhere to be found.

I became irritated, but yet, my patience helped me to move on.

I went to the shelf near the huge mirror.

I searched. I didn't seem to notice something standing far behind me. Near the kitchen.

I could see its reflection. I couldn't see what it was clearly.

It walked nearer and nearer. Everything seemed creepy all of a sudden.

I closed my eyes.. for at least five seconds.

Then I opened. There was no one.

I ran to my room. I was afraid. I was freaked out. I didn't know what else to do except hide under my bed.

I opened my room. And then, all I heard was an explosion and everything turned bright.

I opened my eyes. I was shivery.

And then I realized, it was a party popper. My friends gathered in the room, ready for me to celebrate my birthday.

I stood aghast looking at their faces, blank for a moment.

Where were these idiots hiding? How did I not notice them?

But a smile emerged. I couldn't control myself. I was happy.

I cut the cake. All of us had it.

We had so much fun.

And then I remembered. I asked

"How dare you guys threaten me by acting like a ghost? You!?!"

My friend replied, "What ghost?"

That reply, made me think everything twice.

I said, "Never mind.."
