I threw my arms around them, smiling like crazy. "It's amazing!"

Dad smiled and said, "You two ladies go ahead, I have to get something." And then he winked at mom. "The sushi restaurant thinggy."

"You'll get the 'sushi restaurant thinggy'?" I asked.

He laughed and ruffled my hair. "No, dummy. I was telling your mom to go to the 'sushi restaurant thinggy' with you. I'll catch up with you later, I just gotta pick someo-thing up."

Before I could question him, he'd got in the car and drove away. I huffed and rolled my eyes, turning to my mom. "Where's this 'sushi restaurant thinggy'?"

She smiled at me and said, "It's a five-minute walk from here, so we better get going."

I nodded and followed her. We were quiet for a few minutes until she spoke up.

"So," mom began, "how's school? I mean, did you meet anyone new or...?"

"Oh, there was this new guy sitting in front of me in the bus," I said nonchalantly, my hands slipping to my pockets. "Ford Martin."

She looked at me from the corner of her eye. "A boy?"

I sighed. "No, mom, a puppy."

She chuckled. But then her face turned serious when she faced me. "You know what your dad feels about you and boys and dating and all that, right?" So this was what it's all about.

I blew out an exasperated breath. "Mom! I'm not attracted to boys- to anyone, in that matter. So can you and dad stop bugging me about it?"

Mom's eyebrows were slightly raised, and her mouth was formed into a small pout. "Okay. I trust you."

What is that supposed to mean? I wanted to ask.

We walked in silence the rest of the (gerard) way. I began humming a low tune- Impossible Year. My favorite song from dad's latest album.

At one point in high school, I was depressed. My dad knew, and he tried to talk to me. But he didn't understand what was happening to me. I felt alone and sad. Dad was busy with his new album, and mom with work. I knew I had them, but... there were times when I can't help but feel left out. My only escape was music. It saved my life. It kept me from getting buried in a pit of depression.

And that one particular song- Impossible Year- was the one song that I could relate to at that time. Whenever I heard it play on the radio or if it came on shuffle, I would break down and cry silently. It was like my heart was shattering into a million pieces all over again, but the song was piecing it back together.

I stopped walking when my mom entered a restaurant. I looked up and frowned.

Sushi Restaurant- Eat All You Can

What? Like you can eat as much sushi as you want or is the restaurant divided in two?

I shook my head and went up the stairs. Before I could enter, a car screeched behind me. My brows knitted together when I recognized the driver- dad. He hated those sounds- the screeching. Even though he seems to be able to procure the screeching himself without even trying.

He got out of the car and leaned on the car door. "Why aren't you going in?"

"I'm waiting for you."

He gave me an exaggerated sigh. "That completely ruins my surprise. Just... get in the restaurant."

I crossed my arms. "Nope. Not without you dad." I did like ruining surprises.

He sighed. "Well, you were going to find out anyway." And then he knocked on the window of the backseats and winked at me.

Three people got out of the car. I gasped when I saw the first one.

"Uncle Dallon!" I squealed, running towards him and giving him a really tight hug. "I missed you!"

He chuckled. "Aw, I missed you too kid."

I hadn't seen him in years. Two (or was it three?) years. I expected to see him when he came to the house before Panic! started touring for their new album, but I was in school. Ladi-fucking-da. And then he was supposed to go to my small birthday party, but then things came up and my party was cancelled and then he was needed somewhere. The world was really against the two of us seeing each other again.

"Woah," he said. "You're almost as tall as my chest now. Last I saw you, you were small as a dustmite."

I scowled. "I was not that small."

He chuckled and ruffled my hair, much to my dismay. I smiled and looked at the other two.

Uncle Spence and Aunt Breezy.

I threw my arms around them, even though I see Uncle Spence almost every week.

Smiling, we all headed to the restaurant, where mom was already waiting in a table, her cheek resting on her palm and her eyes trained on her phone. If she weren't sitting on a table for six, you would've thought she was just a bored teen waiting for her order- or date- to arrive.

Dad took a seat next to mom and kissed her quickly. "Is it the eat-all-you-can or are we going to order sushi?"

"Up to you guys," she replied.

Dad looked at me like, I'm so done.

I chuckled and rolled my eyes. "I say eat-all-you-can."

Dad just shrugged and headed to the counter. The rest of us went to the buffet, grabbing a plate and putting heaps of food in it.

When we were all settled down, I took out my phone and groaned. Drained. I slipped it in my pocket and stood up. I excused myself and headed to the bathroom to wash my hands. The others just dug into their food and began eating. I tried not to cringe.

The bathroom was in a sort of deserted area, so I decided to make it quick. I'd barely touched the door knob when someone gripped thr back of my neck tightly.

"Scream," a deep, male voice said. "And I'll snap your neck."

I gulped, tears starting to form in my eyes. Shit. Shit. Shit.

He led me inside the bathroom, and judging from how tight his grip on my nape was, I didn't think he was bluffing when he said he would snap my neck. I looked around me, trying to find for anything- anything- that I could use against the man.

He slammed my back to the wall and laughed silently.

My breath caught in my throat and I tried not to scream. My tears made my vision a little foggy, but I could see the man well enough. He was a big man, with a lot of scars on his brutal face. His teeth were yellow and he smelled like strong masculine perfume. A lump formed in my throat.

What should I do?

The man locked the door and looked at me with the scariest smile on his face.

He chuckled, putting two meaty fingers under my chin and examining my face. "This is my lucky day. I got Brendon Urie's daughter!"
