Chapter 1
Parisian Rein Adams
I graced my way towards the metal door that separates our cubicles to the personal offices of our chief editors. Most of the employees have already assembled themselves in the open space in the building waiting for the announcement to be done to get back to work.
But here I am, separated from them as I made my way to Troy Sanders' office, head-writer and my direct boss.
I ran my hands through my rather old-fashioned skirt and adjusted my bangs. I wonder why'd he'd call me while everyone's out waiting for him. I let my breathing steady and knocked three times.
"Come in"
I came in to his office with confidence outpouring in me as I stood in front his mahogany desk. His gaze never leaving his paperwork. "You called me Roy?" I asked him to get his attention.
He turned his gaze from the papers to mine and a smiled formed at his lips. Troy Sanders has been my friend since the day he hired me for the job after that rather awkward interview we had and he had been my boss since then. He's nearing his 40s yet he acts so teenage with me and Fara Davids, my life shaker best friend.
"Oh, lookie here" He said as a greeting as he stood up to kiss my cheeks. Uhm—have I forgotten to tell you he's gay? Well. I rolled my eyes. I know that greeting since the 20th century and I know it has to do with what I'm wearing.
"Paris, Paris. You're name screams fashion yet you dress—" he stopped eyeing me head to toe before his voice trails off for an unsure polite remark " err—rather too old fashioned" tell you. I know where that was leading.
"C'mon Roy dear. Don't bother judge my taste of fashion. Tell you, you're going nowhere in that conversation." I told him as I looked at his stack of papers "So why'd you want me here?"
"Oh same old, Parisian. Always straight to the point. Can't you relax for a minute bitch? We're so stressed up lately yet you never lost that tone of urgency which, by the way, can be used to the new project I'll be giving you" He said as he went back down for his seat and typed I don't know what things in front of his laptop.
My eyebrow escaped really after what he said. "What new project? I'm currently handling one already so—-"
"That if you'd accept. " He cut off glancing above his spectacles pointing his ballpen like the bald guy I saw on the Devil Wears Prada last night. "But then, it's clear to me that that wouldn't really be the case so let's change it to uhm" paused like he's thinking. devious, I might add. "Convinced? Probably? Or —wait no—-forced. More likely" Then smiled like some game changer.
My forehead knotted as I took the seat for the guest in front of his mahogany desk. "What do you mean?" I asked sternly. I'm feeling that I got this bad. So bad.
He grinned cockily like he usually does. "Tell me, Ms Adams. How do you feel about Monarchies, Emperors, Kings and Queen, Prince and Princesses, blue bloods to summarize and—"
