Simple, yet beautiful.Definitely a change of scenery from the regular gymnasium.
Baby blue lights glistened and reflected off of two large words hanging from the gymnasium ceiling.
Snow Ball.
A canopy of Christmas lights hung from a border of posts around the gym. Groups of kids dancing underneath it, and some standing alone. Along with some sitting on the outskirts by themselves.
Everyone was dressed nicely, suits or dresses could be seen on everyone. Not everyone was dancing, but that doesn't mean they weren't having fun.
The Christmas lights were everywhere, but they cast a soft light on the freshly polished wooden floor.
Dustin was trying to get a girl with red hair to dance with him, but she ignored him and kept talking with her friends. After a fourth attempt, she finally looked at him, but when he asked she just rolled her eyes, earning Dustin rude laughter.
Disappointed and a little heartbroken, he walked over to an empty chair, and slowly say down. He gave a big sigh and rested his chin on his hand, looking glumly at the dance floor.
Handing out punch, Nancy saw him be rejected and sit by himself. She slowly set down her cheap, plastic red cup, maneuvering her way past the other kids towards him.
After a few minutes, they were both dancing to a slow song together, with huge grins on both of their faces.
Close to the middle of the dance floor, Lucas was slow dancing with Max after a bad attempt at asking her to, with a big smile on his face. They shared a short kiss and continued dancing.
Will was slow dancing with a short girl who had long dark hair, and a simple dress. She'd come up to him earlier, saying "Hey zombie boy. Wanna dance?" With strange glances at the other, he said yes.
Mike was the only one remaining. He was sitting alone in a folding chair, his hands clasped together. His right leg bouncing up and down in anticipation. He didn't have a clue what he was waiting for, but he did so anyway.
Another slow song started and he gave a tremendous sigh. Nothing would happen, and he would be alone tonight.
A few minutes after, the sound of the gym doors quietly opening filled the room although everyone ignored it. They were too busy to care given that other people were constantly going in and out of the gym.
The second he saw who'd opened the door, his jaw nearly dropped.
It was you. Slowly walking in, and looking around in confusion. You'd never been to a dance before, and the first thing you looked for was someone familiar.
You were dressed in your best outfit. Your hair was done nicely and groomed well.
Searching the crowd, you finally spotted Mike who quickly stood up from the eye contact. The biggest smile made its way to your face.
Mike was wearing a black suit and tie, with polished dress shoes. His hair was combed out leaving slight waves and curls.
Not long after, you two were slow dancing together, with him giving you endless compliments. You were just smiling at each other, enjoying the comfortable silence.
It took him a few seconds to think before he slowly started to lean in. It was a quick but meaningful kiss.
He rested his forehead against yours, smiling. And you two had the best dance ever.
It was bad, but I hope you liked it anyway.
