Chapter Nine
A month came and went. Finals, holidays, birthdays, it was all finished for that calendar year. The drama calmed down significantly between Zach and me, to the point where we’d only fight about once a week. Still though, Ana probably saw more of him on a daily basis than I did. But in all honesty, I don’t care. I’m just waiting for him to not only realize that we shouldn’t be together, but actually get the guts to do something about. I have yet to mention the conversation I overheard that night. Part of me thinks he’ll deny it straight up, and the other part doesn’t want to know.
“Ramona and Beezus,” were the words said behind me and I turn around to find the person they belong to.
I smile as Tristan walks up to me, “what?”
“You have to save me from Ramon and Beezus.”
He sounded so desperate it was almost funny, “the book? The movie?”
“The movie! There’s a book? Why? The movie looks bad enough and Lucy wants to go and please, I beg you to take her.”
I shake my head, “nope, I like to watch you suffer too much.” He glares at me, “what? I’m being honest. It’s just a fun kid’s movie Tristan, you’ll survive.”
“That’s what you said last time and I had to deal with a ten year old in tears because the animal dies.”
I grin, remembering him coming to class the morning after watching We Bought a Zoo. “If I take your sister to the movies, what will you be doing?”
He shrugs, “there are a couple parties around town. Might hit one of them, or all of them, up.”
“Of course. How about this, we both take your sister to the movies. That way you don’t have to pay attention to her, but you also won’t be getting drunk.”
He smirks, “you just want to watch me suffer.”
“That too.”
“Fine. Does tonight work for you? I know it’s when Zach and Ana hang out, so you should be free.”
“Are you implying that I don’t have a life beyond my boyfriend?” I ask, placing my hands on my hips like I was actually mad.
Tristan cocks an eyebrow, “Well do you?”
I lower my head defeated, “my family, yes, that’s something else.”
“You need to get out more miss,” Tristan says, “tell you what, when Zach is studying with Ana this weekend, I’m gonna take you somewhere I’m sure you’ve never been before.”
“And where is that?”
“That, miss, is a surprise. Now, are we on for tonight or not?”
“Hmm, I guess I can fit you and your sister in tonight.” Then an idea popped into my head, one I knew he couldn’t say no to, “I’ll pick you guys up at what? Seven?”
“You want to drive?” Tristan asks, obviously a little shocked.
I give him a mischievous smile, luckily he hasn’t known my long enough to know what look I was giving him. “Of course.”
“Seven is just perfect. See you then!” He flashes one of his signature smirks and disappears around the corner.
Hour later I show up in front of the address of Tristan Bertina. His house was something I’d always dreamed of. It was the color of the sun and had a white picket fence in the front with a yard and garden. The house was nice and small, fitting for a family. I climb out of my limo and walk up, ringing the doorbell. Tristan appears at the door, a frown on his face the instant he sees what’s behind me.
