Kirsten stormed out of the bar, mad at Adam for sneaking to the bathroom to meet up with a girl he knew, mad at the dating website for saying Adam was her most "best" match, but mostly mad at herself for agreeing to the date and showing up with high hopes.

"Come on babe, she's just a friend. I was just saying hi." Adam said stumbling out the door.

"I'm not your babe, and 'friends' don't greet each other by ignoring your date and leaving them to go have a make out session with someone else."

"It was one kiss. Come on back inside, I'll buy you a drink, we can talk it over. It won't happen again."

Kirsten looked him over, shocked and disgusted that someone could be so arrogant. "No thanks, I'd rather wade through a cesspool of excrement."

"Whatever." Adam said walking back inside to meet back up with his 'friend.'

Kirsten hopped in her Uber and went home, her thoughts going back to the past few weeks. She had been living with her boyfriend of five years when he asked her to dinner. Thinking he was going to propose, she dolled herself up for the big night. Instead of a proposal, however, he confessed that he was seeing someone else, whom was now pregnant with his baby. The next day, he asked her to move out so the new girl could move in. She packed her things and was about to move back with her parent's before Jason stepped in and invited her to stay in his apartment. The two had been friends since high school, and although both of them had secret crushes on each other, neither of them fessed up to the feelings, so nothing became of it. Walking up the steps to their place, she was happy to be home where her books, best friend, and computer kept her company. Inside, Jason was on the couch, Brisinger on his lap, watching an old stand up of Robin Williams. Seeing her walk in with a grumpy look on her face, he paused the show.

"How was the date with Adam?" He emphasized the name.

"He took me to a bar and went and hooked up with some other girl." She said dropping her purse on the table by the door before walking in her room to change into her pajamas. Bill was laying on her bed, raising his head and smiling at her as she changed. "I'm sticking with the only male I can trust, old Bill." Bill, the bulldog, wagged his stubby tail when she said his name, then followed her to the living room to lay his head on her lap as she scratched him behind his ears.

"So that's another strikeout? I'm sorry."

"Why can't guys want more than just a one night stand? Something meaningful? Is it too much to ask?"

"Well, you just haven't met the right guy. Or maybe you're standards are too high."

Kirsten had to make sure he wasn't joking before she laughed. "My standards aren't that high. One: Don't cheat on me. Two: Have a job. Three: Don't be a deranged psychopath."

"Exactly! Can't have the whole world, girl. Gotta take the good with the bad." Jason smiled at her, "And stop taking this whole thing so seriously. Dating is supposed to be fun. Finding out what you want and don't want. Enjoy it. You're a beautiful girl and you will find your knight in shining armor, it will just take time. Until then, focus on yourself, you just got out of a bad relationship, you don't need to bounce back immediately." Then he un-paused his show. "For now, there is Rocky Road in the freezer."

"Thanks, I appreciate it." Kirsten smiled as she got up to get herself a bowl.

"Oh, and make yourself a bowl while you're at it!" Jason shouted from the couch.
