Laurance stalked through the forest, his balled fists crushing the flowers he had picked for her. His rage was burning through him hotter than he could bear. The sheer intensity of it reminded him of the Nether, and that was not a good thing.
How dare she?! I gave her my heart and soul! She had no right to move without telling me first that she didn't love me anymore! I never gave up on her! She's the only thing that kept me going, the only thing that kept me fighting against the Calling! And she doesn't even care if she breaks my heart! I bet she wasn't planning on even telling me! Irene!
Laurance turned to the side and punched the nearest tree, feeling satisfaction when he heard the wood crack. He shook out his hand, watching as crumpled petals drifted down from his open palms.
"I hate her." He spoke out loud into the cool air, the words feeling strange yet amazing. He repeated the phrase, the words rolling off of his tongue. He kept saying it over and over again until he was shouting. "I HATE HER!"
Finally he stopped, panting ever so slightly. His anger was still there, put not as strong as it had been before. Instead, it was sorrow. Sadness for what never could be.
Laurance made his way to the tree he had punched, sliding down the rough bark until he was sitting on the ground. His head fell back against the tree, and his light blue eyes stared up at the afternoon sky.
"But I love her." He whispered to himself, wrapping his arms around his knees. His mind kept flitting back to Aphmau, the one woman who had completely stolen his heart. He didn't expect that he would ever fall in love the same way again, but maybe that was better. He had fallen for her immediately, hadn't even gotten to know her as a person. And that may have been the reason why she had moved away from him. He had been too forward and pushy, as well as very overprotective. He couldn't bear the thought of anyone, except Garroth because he had loved her first, being in love with her or her being in love with anyone else.
Even now, knowing that she was pregnant with Aaron's child, a man who had showed up out of nowhere, he still had these feelings for her. Maybe that was where the hate played in.
Laurance sighed, feeling memories rising to the surface. The first time he saw her, he had been the head guard in Meteli, and Cadenza had convinced him to dye his hair the same color as hers. When he first saw her leap onto dry land off of her boat, he almost laughed. She looked so silly, having a lot of trouble parking. But when she looked up with those stunning hazel eyes, he was entranced. Her long chocolate hair, tan skin, she was stunning. When she approached and asked him for directions, he found himself sweet talking her, wanting a reason just to hear her beautiful voice.
The first time he really loved her was when he made her leave the Nether. It was either all of them or just him, and he wasn't about to put her life in even more danger. He forced her to leave, he would not let her stay. But the way she almost refused to leave made his heart ache. This was a true Lord, someone who cared for all of her people and even those she had no connections with. Unlike those Lords who did nothing all day, she was out and trying to actually do some good in the world. He wouldn't be the reason why that shinning light went out.
There was the time she actually loved him. And she loved Garroth. And he respected that. He wanted her to be happy, and she wasn't so long as Garroth was trapped in another realm. He would've given anything to see her smile with that same carefree manner. And it wasn't just for her sake he wanted to save Garroth. Garroth was his brother, even if they were both fighting for the same woman.
The first time they kissed was at her 'wedding.' He had gone berserk, killing almost all of the werewolves present. He had been about to kill Fenrir as well, but she had stopped him with a kiss, bringing him back to Earth and his sanity. After that he had promised himself he would never lose control ever again, but at the moment he was getting pretty close.
And then there was moment when he first realized she was in love with Aaron. He hadn't accepted it until now, but the evidence had been there for a long time. When she was mourning his death for what seemed like weeks, he had finally confronted her on what Aaron had really meant to her. Garroth had flipped out on him, which he guess made sense, seeing how rude he had really been. But it was a serious question. She hadn't spent that long moping after he or Garroth had sacrificed themselves for her.
Irene, he still loved her so much, and nothing anyone could ever say would change that. But maybe... maybe he had to accept the fact that she might not love him anymore. He would never forget those precious moments though. Because... they were the only things keeping him going day after day.
