As she packs her things, she is deep in thought. What if this is a mistake? What if something goes wrong? What if things don't work out? No. No, stop thinking like that. She thinks to herself. Anything is better than Riverdale right now.
She zips up her pale pink suitcase, ties her laces on her shoes and puts a light grey sweater on. She stands before the mirror in her room. Gazing at the person she has become.
She remembers the first day she got this princess-like desk. She got it for Christmas. She was so excited when, coming back from Christmas vacation at grandmas house, it was there. Placed in her room the way she's always known it.
That was back when she had her first crush on Archie and wore two tight pigtails in her hair everyday.
Who would have thought Betty Cooper, the perfect girl next door. Part of the oh-so-perfect family. Would just leave. Vanish as if Riverdale and everything in it doesn't exist.
Well that little Pink Pigtail Princess has come a long way. Sometimes, Betty likes to pretend that she's still that same little girl on the inside.
As for Jughead, his dad is in jail, his mom and sister want nothing to do with him so he doesn't have anything to lose. But one thing – Betty.
And that's why their running. Running before something bad happens to one of them that the other won't be able to live with.
Before meeting Betty at FP's trailer to then later, catch the bus to wherever. Jughead wanted to see his father one last time.
"Dad, i know you told me not to come back here but i just needed to. One more time."
"Jughead why are you making it sound like one of us is dying tomorrow and this is your final goodbye?" FP Jones asks his son.
"We're leaving, dad. Betty and I. Before one of us gets killed. We are going someplace and not coming back for a while." Jughead says with a lump in his throat.
"What are you talking about Jughead? Doing that will get you killed. Not staying here."
Jughead gives his dad a puzzled look, even though he's aware what he means. Polly and Jason attempted this same thing right before Jason died.
But for so many reasons, this is the right thing to do.
"I know. Polly and Jason. But we have a plan. We're not selling drugs for money and Betty's parents are crazy, but not crazy enough to shoot us for leaving Riverdale." Jughead explains.
"Have you met Alice Cooper?" FP chuckles while approaching the metal bars to be closer to his son.
"Very funny dad. We're seriously leaving."
"I can't do much to stop you while i'm in here can i?" Jughead watching his dad get emotional is not something that happens often. He's quickly taken by surprise.
"Come here, son." FP calls Jughead to get closer. Jughead slowly approaches his dad looking him directly in the eye. FP grabs Jughead by the shoulder with a stern look in his eye.
"You two kids be safe. You may have had to grow up fast, boy, but you know nothing about the real world." FP starts to tear up so they both fake cough at the same time to make up for it.
"Thanks, dad." Jug grabs FPs arm and doesn't break eye contact. They stay like this for a good while, as if they're silently still speaking through their eyes. Until Jugheads phone goes off. It's a text message from Betty.
'I'm on my way. X.'
"That's Betty." Jug says softly.
"I'll see you soon." FP says confidently.
Without another word, Jughead takes another long look into his dads eyes for the last time until he turns and walks away, already putting distance between the only person who he looks up too.
