What was Father thinking pondered Vasdetta. You could not get rid of magic. It was impossible. It was there very way of life. Getting rid of magic! Her Father was mad!

After her Father filled her in on how magic killed her mother and vowed to get revenge on the magician and magic, she could not bear to listen anymore. She ran out of the that horrid room and fled to place where she could find comfort. Her paint room. Vasdetta loved to capture the world with her paints. It was also a blessing that her water magic made her paint smooth and easy to apply. Almost all the painting in Kingdom of Roance's two palaces were painted by her ancestors with their water magic and had survived since Roance became an empire a thousand years ago.

Vasdetta went to the window to gaze down at the citizens of Roance hurrying around in the streets. The family of Rimadov was currently at their palace in the city of Frium. If she gazed further she could she some blue from the lake Fris. She quickly turned away. She could not bear to think of those long summers with Gith at the lake side. Her stomach churned the thought of him and his new wife, Quasa who became Lady of Frium when she married Gith.

Vasdetta sat down in front of her paints and thought about her father and mostly Gith. She still though her Father was mad about ridding magic from this world. He must have been hiding it well after her mother died so many years ago. Maybe that was why people called her Father sick with grief and madness on the streets. How would people know when she was not sure herself?

If her Father was mad, would the council make him step down and let Vasdetta become queen? No. They thought she was imcapable and too immature for such things. First they wanted to find her a suitdable husband. No, that could not happen. She refused to marry someone she id not love. Vasdetta would find something to rid her father of this foolish quest and prevent herself from rising to the throne a few more years.

...

"Rosia." Vasdetta called at her friend from across the healers' rooms. Rosia was pressing her hands to a pateints knee to heal what looked like a nasty cut.

"One moment, Detta. I am almost done." Light suddenly flared from Rosia's hands into the already sealing cut. Color started to return to the skin around the knee. Rosia lifted her hands and inspected the the knee.

"Looks good sweety. Maybe you can visit my chambers later," she smirked.

The patient who happened to be part of her Fathers elite guard smiled, "Like every other night, Rosia? Have you not tired of me yet?"

Rosia tittered, "No, but if you keep saying that I might."

The guard chuckled, "Well i guess I will see you tonight.' His eyes caught Vasdetta's. "Good afternoon, Your Highness. I hope your day has been going well." He then left to attend to his duties.

"Who was that again? I always forget. Was it Ter or Nilis? No wait, those were your last lovers. Hmm, well it definitly was not Kisha. You dumped her a few months back," Vasdetta said.

Rosia pulled her scarlet hair out of her bun. "No, defenitly not Kisha. Gods, I could not stand that women when she started complaining about those damn taxes. That hazeled eyed, darked skin man was Nerek. I meant him last week... at a party... in the lake... alone."

"Where else? Is that not where everyone goes to find someone to bed? Hey, I need you to help me with something but you have to keep it a secret."

Vasdetta explained her Father and of his foolish plans and his delusions that someone killed her mother and not the sickness that had been plaguing her for months before her death.  Rosia listned to every word she spoke. Even the part of her mothers painting in that horrid room. Rosia's eyes widened when she told her.

"I knew your Father has not been the same since the Queen died, but this something different. I wonder how long this has been going on. Maybe since your mother died? Detta, you need to make sure no one finds out. If someone thought your Father was mad or even worse he wanted to get rid of magic... that could be very bad for the monarchy. People have already been talking about overthrowing him because of his new taxes."

Vasdetta sighed, "I know. I have been giving it some thought. I will ask my Father to take us to our palace in the mountains. he might listen to sense but I must first get him away from the city and prying eyes."

A tall blonde woman swayed her hips into the healing chamber. Her hair was pulled back into a bun so she could better see her patients. Her silver healing pants and blouse went well her high silver boots. She smirked when she saw who was before her.

"Well, well, well. Who else would be cuddling up to the Princess of the most powerful kingdom of the known world. Rosia, my dear should you not be working. I wonder what would happen if Mother Superior found out you were slacking. Again."

"Go jump into the endless pits of Kesh, Kisha," countered Rosia. "I have an important assignment Her Royal Highness tasked me with."

"Anyway, Rosia and I have to be going now." Vasdetta started to drag Rosia out of the chamber before Rosia decided to punch her ex lover.

Kisha narrowed her eyes as Vasdetta and Rosia turned their backs on the healer.
