Weekends are for sleeping, especially if it's a weekend right after your mid-term exams. Azlan thought, trying not to be too awake or else he might remember how he needed to do the laundry he did not have the time for in the previous week, or the dishes that were still in the sink from last night. The bedding needed to be changed and the whole place could use a vacuum.
Great, he was thinking about it already. He groaned and turned to the other side of the bed, very conveniently choosing sleep over the things he will have to do for the rest of the day.
Last week had been hell. Taha loved to think that Azlan was a genius and crashed for the entire week to group study for the exams. That—Azlan had no problem with, but with Taha came so much mess, and empty ready-to-eat food wrappers and instant coffee that it gave Azlan that itch to throw him out of his apartment. However, it was nice to have someone in his eerily empty space and the bond he had developed with Taha over such a small period of time was what gave him the motivation to bestow Taha with leniencies that he would not have allowed anyone else to have.
He was fairly certain the pounding on the door was starting to synchronize with the pounding behind his temple. The assault to his doorbell next took him out of his semi-hibernation mode and he prayed to God that it was not Taha or else he would really murder him. Cocooning himself in the comforter, he went towards the door. Waiting on the other side was a person he least expected to show up on his door, along with other things and most likely some food.
"Hi." Aleen chirped, waving a bag full of what smelled like bagels and pizza pies in his face. "What took you so long?"
The things (which were actually Taha, Mariam and Maham) waved at him too. It was rude to not invite people when they are standing in front of your house and that with some breakfast too, which means you will have one thing crossed from the list of 'what you do not want to do on a Saturday'.
The pros outweighed the cons and thus all were invited in. Kettles were plugged and dishes were taken out. All of that smelled fishy. Azlan narrowed his eyes at Taha who merely smiled back.
"Were you still sleeping? Sorry to have disturbed you." Mariam did not seem sorry at all.
"Why are you all here?"
"Well, it is sort of a long story. I called Aleen who contacted Taha, who asked Maham to be ready. Then we were all hungry and thought we could have breakfast here. Look, we also brought the pretzels that you like." Azlan wanted to know how Mariam had Taha's number but he had more important things on hand to deal with, such as those four, noisy people.
"Okay, 3rd year from Allied Sciences are having a bonfire tonight and all of us thought we could treat ourselves to some reward after the exams. We could not leave you out definitely, so here we are." Maham explained.
"And how are you supposed to get in? None of us are from Allied?"
"This is where, my friend, you come into the picture. We texted you the details but you must have muted the group chat, you will get us all in." Taha talked with his bagel stuffed mouth.
"I get from all of this that you won't leave even if I say no?"
"Obviously. Why would you even say no? We're all here anyway." Mariam looked at him as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. If cursing his dimples to be so effective on people would bring him back his sleep, he would have done that but it was far too late for that.
