Chapter 1

I woke up with my hair in a knotty mess. Looks like my pigtails have finally come out. They were stuck in that position for half the year due to a mishap with some hairspray. I yawned and stretched my arms, hands splaying across the roof of my bedroom. I jumped over the side of my bed and sleepily walked over to my computer. I hit a key on the keyboard and Adrien's face smiled up at me. I looked at the time in the bottom corner of the screen and gasped with surprise. 10 minutes till the tardy bell! I ran to my closet door almost smashing my face in it, the commotion caused Tikki to wake up finally. "Wha-?" She yawned, her big violet eyes drooping with tiredness. "Aahgggg class starts in 10 minutes Tikki!!!!" Tikki blinked and flew down to where my purse was lying on the floor. She snuggled into it and promptly began sleeping. Sighing with exasperation I threw on my clothes that I had designed and grabbed the purse, jostling Tikki around. I ran a brush quickly through my hair and left it down for the first time in a while. But as I left that morning I had a strange sense of dread.

~~~~~~~~
I crashed through the door to the classroom. Instantly Ms. Bustier turned around sharply away from her chalkboard, "Marinette! Do not enter my classroom that way! Go to Mr. Damocles, I would like to hear what he has to say about this being the fifth time you've been late to my class this week!" Ms. Bustier held out a finger pointing to the door which I had just catapulted into. She resumed teaching and Alya mouthed 'Lunch'.I nodded and then turned around and headed to the principal's office.
I knocked on the door to the office, my head down in shame. "Come in!" Mr. Damocles said. I opened the door and saw Mr. Damocles eating a donut while staring apatheticly at his computer, the mouse clicking on icons that I couldn't see. He looked up from the keyboard, his head held in his hand, "Late?" He asked. I nodded my head, hair dangling over my eyes.
Mr. Damocles sighed and grabbed a sheet of paper from one of his desk drawers. He took a pen from out of his pocket and wrote something on the paper. He handed it to me, "Detention 'till lunch." He said. He then went back to clicking on whatever was on his screen. I turned around and headed back through the door. Being a superhero was tough, especially when akumas decided to attack at three in the morning. That particular akuma had been a man who got fired from his nightshift job as a security guard. With previous knowledge of going through police training, he had been tough.
I walked to the library dreading what sentences I would have to write today. Most likely "Marinette needs to be on time" or something as equally stupid. A crash from outside interrupted my thoughts. Sirens wailed and I prayed for whoever might have been injured. Quickly darting into a side closet I opened my purse. Tikki flew out, arms mimicking punches and kicks. "Let's go!" She said. I smiled, "Tikki spots on/ transform me!"
~~~~~~~~
I rolled onto the pavement to soften the impact on the ground. My spandex suit absorbing much of the after shock. I stood up and brushed off my suit. A police officer ran up to me, "Ah Ladybug you made it!" I recognized him as Sabrina's dad, "Nice to see you Mr. Raincomprix." I said, I looked at the crash, it seemed a little unnatural, the cars looked as if they had been thrown, not like they crashed into each other. "It was an akuma." Mr. Raincomprix said, motioning to the victims who were trembling next to some officers.

"It was horrible!" One of the victims said. "It was like a shadow, this tall!" He motioned above his head as far as his hand could reach. Then he spotted me, "Oh Ladybug, save us!" "No problem!" Said a familiar voice behind me. "We are Abs-solutely purrrrfect when dealing with akumas." Said no other than Mr. Flirt himself. I sighed and rolled my eyes "Abs-solutely, really Chat Noir?" He smirked, "You know you like it Bugaboo." I rolled my eyes. "Come on Chat we have an akuma to catch." I threw my yoyo into the air and wrapped on one of Paris's smokestacks, then sailed into the air.
~~~~~~~~
Chat Noir ran beside me, keeping pace on the rooftops while I swing along with my yoyo. "Any idea what we're looking for M'lady?" Commented Chat. "Not really but it's sure to find us," I said, "but I do know it's like a shadow ghost thingy." Chat smirked, "such articulate words M'lady." I stopped, the air was growing colder. It didn't make any sense because the sun was in the east and the forecast today was 27 degrees Celsius (about 80 farenheit), yet the air felt like it was the dead of winter. Chat seemed to notice, he had stopped too. His ears twitched and I wondered how those worked, they were just spandex/leather or some sort of pleather right? I may never know the answer as a shadow whirled by and knocked Chat off the building.
I yelled, and launched myself over the building, hooking on something above, I lowered myself to the ground. Glancing around I couldn't see Chat or the akumatized victim. "Chat?!" I yelled. I felt the wind move behind me. I turned around and saw the shadow behind me.
It had a silhouette of a girl with long hair and a tall body. The girl seemed to be wearing a ragged dress however it had no distinguishing features. I took a fighting stance and began swinging my yoyo, it swung around in a circle creating a kind of shield, or a weapon if she attacked. She laughed, a deep resounding sound that sent shivers down my spine. It seemed to come from all over the place, from the ground, sky, buildings, people. The shadow stalked towards me, her hair swinging from side to side. She glided across the ground and seemed to make no sound as she approached. I backed up but the shadow seemed to appear right before me. She placed one nail against my chest and smiled. The black matter around her face lightened into shades of gray so that I could that her lips curled into a smirk. The creature then laughed again and disappeared. My heart was racing and my breath coming out in short gasps but then I realized that the shadow still had my partner, Chat. Determined I vaulted onto the rooftops of Paris shouting for him.
~~~~~~~
"Nadja Chamack here! Don't be bemused, it's just the news! And today we are here today with live footage of Ladybug seeming to look for her partner Chat Noir. If anyone has seen him give our station a call so we can help out Paris's superhero love duo!"
~~~~~~~~
The Darkness pressed up against me. It's dark coils twisted around the room and seeped into me. Yes, it was better to refer to it as an entity. It's heartbeat seemed to pulse in the silence, it's breaths in the slight breeze. I may be named Chat Noir, but this, this was the essence of darkness itself. A writhing, coiling thing that sucked the light out of anything and everything. Draining it of life, sound, meaning.
Standing up I heard the rasping of chains and dipped my head to look at my hands, but I couldn't see anything. Figures, it's pitch black in here. Twisting my wrists revealed I did indeed have chains around my hands. Moving my ankles revealed chains there as well. I hung my head, where was I and where was my lady? Sitting on the ground I held my head. She will save me.
~~~~~~~
Gasping I sat down on the roof. I was frantic, I couldn't find Chat Noir. I didn't realize how much I could miss him until he had been ripped away from me. The sun hung in the sky, it's afternoon glow warming the air around me. The birds chirped and a butterfly flitted past me. Everything was peaceful except me. I almost wanted to yell into the air that it wasn't fair. I wanted the sky to cry in mourning for my missing partner. Maybe Nadja was right. Maybe I did have feelings for Chat. I couldn't dwell on that now though, I had to find him.

Hello and welcome to my first fanfiction book. Nice long chapter to get you guys started. This book is actually based off a comic and I decided to write this fanfiction about it. I won't update fast as this takes time to write and edit. Who do you think the shadow is? And where is chat? Find out soon when I stop procrastinating!
