Prologue

She stopped and stared at the scene in front of her. Blood was dripping off Ethan’s lip from where she punched him. She felt a mix of amusement and concern for him. Amusement that she could hurt him physically. Concern that she could hurt him physically.

“How did you know?” Ariadne asked shakily, as if she were dangling on a piece of rope, trying to hold on.

“I’ve always known, Ariadne. There was never a doubt in my mind, from the first time I saw you.” Ethan replied with utmost sincerity that it was frightening. Even to him.

They stared at each other’s eyes and it was as if they were trying to push the other off a ledge. Ariadne looked away first, scared that her eyes were telling Ethan her secrets. Ethan tried to tell her something when Damien cut him off-

“Uh guys, can we wrap this up? NYPD is on our trail, and they’re not too happy with us stealing their lead.”

Ethan sighed and grabbed Ariadne’s hand, “We’ll talk about this later. Alone.” A shiver went through Ariadne’s body. That’s exactly what she was afraid of.
