Ariadne jumped off the museum’s roof and landed with a somersault. She watched the police cars surround the Smithsonian Institution. She couldn’t help but smile as she unraveled the cloth that contained the Hope Diamond. It’s claimed to be the largest and most perfect blue diamond in the world with an estimated value of a quarter of a billion dollars and now, she’s a quarter of a billion dollars richer.

She smiled once more as she saw the people walking into the direction of the institution without even sparing a glance at her. She kept walking and looked at the sky and muttered to herself “When will you come see me, Shadow?”

She woke up this morning and rummaged through her closet and finally decided on wearing a black V-neck shirt, skinny jeans and black, leather boots. She grabbed her bag, jumped from her balcony and rode her Harley to school.

Ethan got out of his car and started to walk towards the school. He saw his friends waiting for him by the entrance, they waved at him and he waved back.

“Hey Ethan, we’re going to get a bite to eat later, you coming? “ Eric said. He looked at them and noticed a bunch of girlssurrounding them, more like sluts, he thought.

He couldn’t deal with this, not right now.

He quickly walked away, with no words to describe the disgust he felt.

“What’s gotten into him?” Eric asked in confusion.

Damien laughed, “Our leader doesn’t seem to agree with our pasttimes.”

Eric scoffed, “At least we have one.” Always the optimist.

Damien smiled, “You, my friend, are smarter than I thought.”

“And don’t you ever forget it.”

“ ’Tis forgotten.” Damien bowed in mock grace.

“Who are you this time? Shakespeare?”

“My dear boy, you are mistaken once again. ‘Tis Hemmingway. You really should brush up on your Literature, I’m afraid for your grades.”

“Is that accent even real?”

At that moment, the unthinkable happened. She appeared, with her caramel colored hair and her demonic red eyes. She wasn’t in front of Damien but her mere presence commanded his attention, no, their attention. He looked around and noticed that they were all caught in her spell, unable to break free until she wishes it so.

She got off her bike and suddenly, all eyes were on her.

Why were they staring at me?  She wondered.

She couldn’t mask her confusion and then, she got her answer.

“Because they’ve never seen someone like you before.”

She turned around and walked straight into a person’s chest. She looked up and saw the most mesmerizing green eyes she’d ever seen. With his defined features and his chocolate brown locks, he was easily the hottest guy she has ever met.

“Hi, I’m Damien.”

He took her hand and kissed it. “Nice to meet you.”

She pulled her hand from his grasp with strength that she knew he noticed. And if he did, he didn’t show it. She giggled and gave him a flirty smile, “What do you mean by ‘someone like you’? Is there something weird about a transfer student, Damien?” She said it in such an inviting way that could only mean that she was flirting with him.

He liked it.

“Are you fishing for compliments, Miss ____?”

“Amber. Amber Lynn. And yes, how’d you guess?” She tilted her head and batted her eyelashes.

“A girl like you deserves someone to compliment her every minute of every day.”

Ariadne touched his shoulder, leaned forward and whispered in his ear, “Are you volunteering, Damien?” He shivered; he’d never known a girl who could turn him on with just a touch and on his shoulder at that.

Before he could answer, the bell rang.

“Let’s talk about our business proposition later, shall we?” And with that, she turned and walked away.

Ariadne was glad that Damien wasn’t in her class, she couldn’t deal with her fake persona, Amber, any longer than necessary. Although, she had appeared cheerful and flighty when she introduced herself to her new class, she didn’t need to do the outrageous flirting that she had to do with Damien.

She sat down at the only available seat left, the right corner of the first row. She counted to five until the girl seating next to her introduced herself in almost the same manner she did, “I’m Callie Jones and it’s really nice to meet you! We don’t get transfers at all so you’re the biggest thing that’s happened here since Martha’s break up with Jeff.”

After that, Callie launched into a conversation so fast that Ariadne could only get the words “cheat” and “ran his car over” out of the whole thing. She smiled through it all and nodded her head a few times as if she was following everything. Finally, Callie finished and offered her a tour.

“Sure, it’d be great to know where my other classrooms are.” Ariadne smiled gratefully.

“Okay, you want to meet up at lunch, too? I could introduce you to some friends of mine. They’re really friendly.”

“That would be so great. Thank you so much.” There was so much enthusiasm in Ariadne’s voice that she wanted to hurl. Amber was so far the worst persona that she ever made.

Callie brushed the thank you off and reminded her, “Hey, we’re friends now. There’s no need to thank me.”

Ariadne smiled, thinking this was way too easy.
