((A/N)): And I said 'I don't write for Jonathan Crane anymore', you know, like a liar.
Seriously though, I'm not taking Jonathan requests, I'm literally only writing for him when I have the inspiration or when I feel like it. Sorry.

Another noise.
You pushed yourself away from your desk, ready to investigate.
Ever since you had started working later hours, you had heard them almost every single night, either from the basement, an area restricted to you, as an intern, or Dr. Jonathan Crane's office a few doors down.
Jonathan Crane had to be the only other member of the Arkham staff who stayed as late as you did, oftentimes even later.
He was a calm and quiet man, composed and elegant. Extremely intelligent, one of the best at Arkham, in fact. And extremely handsome. As slightly intimidated as you felt in his presence, you had never noticed anything odd about him, until you had started realizing where some of the late night noises were coming from.
In fact, you hardly saw him during your late nights. He was a man with a secret, and you were curious.
As against your better judgment as it was, you were too distracted now to go back to working, and you needed a break, anyway. You took a tentative step out of your little office space, glancing left and right before stepping out completely.
You were used to seeing Arkham empty and quiet after so many late nights, but something felt wrong, though nothing seemed out of place, and that bothered you. The hallway was dark, lit only by the flickering fluorescent lights above you, and even that was creepy. Your stomach sank, dreading whatever you would find that kept making the unnervingly loud noises.
Luckily, you didn't have to walk in the dark for long, as the elevator was just at the end of the hall.
Approaching the double doors, your stomach sank even further when you realized that it was already in use. And it was coming up to your floor.
The doors slid open to reveal Jonathan Crane. You blinked in surprise before taking a step back as he stepped out.
"Miss L/N", he acknowledged with a nod. "Late hours again, I see".
The shadows and cheap lighting only served to heighten his good looks to you, his blue eyes piercing as he regarded you curiously. Something that you didn't recognize flickered in them when he caught you glance at the elevator doors as they slid shut.
"Going somewhere?" He arched a brow.
"Actually, Dr. Crane", you said, cutting your eyes back to him. "I heard some pretty concerning noises down in the basement. Is everything alright down there?"
You wanted to melt into the floor and let it claim you under his ice-glazed gaze.
He took a breath in through his nose and inclined his head for you to follow him in the direction of the offices.
You were nearly jogging to keep up with his poised strides.
"I believe there's maintenance work going on down there currently", he said finally. "Should explain the noise".
He stopped in front of the office you shared with another Arkham staff member. You were still an intern, after all. The doctor reminded you of it, too, as he stopped and studied you.
"Although the basement level is restricted for interns", he said sternly. "You would do well to remember that, Miss L/N".
You felt your cheeks heat up. Be it from indignation, embarrassment, both, you didn't know. You only hoped he wouldn't be able to tell.
"Right", you said quickly, averting your gaze. "Apologies, Dr. Crane".
You wondered if you were imagining the little ghost of a smirk that passed over his lips.
He brushed past you, stopping a little ways away and tossing a "Goodnight, Miss L/N" over his shoulder to you.
Concealed in the elevator again, heading back to the basement, Jonathan allowed himself a full smirk.
You were so young, so naive. You had no idea what was going on under you, though you would be finding out soon enough, he suspected.
Curious little thing, he thought to himself.
He was, indeed, a man with a secret, though he was sure you wouldn't be so keen on discovering it anymore... he would see to that personally.
