"So you are sure you saw what looked like a holographic person, strangling Mr Bates," asked an FBI agent, I nodded my head, I know I sounded crazy but they had asked for the truth and 99% of the time people didn't believe me anyway.
"I know I sound like I've had to much crack, but I'm not joking and to be honest I don't care if you don't believe me, no one ever does and that works well for me. I'm just annoyed there wasn't any iron around.." Shit, maybe I shouldn't have said that.
"Excuse me miss?" the taller agent asked
I awkwardly laughed "ironing, Haha, I could have used an iron today" none of what I was saying made any sense, I might as well be on crack.
The shorter agent looked at me with a bemused expression. His mannerisms seem so familiar to me but I had never met him before.
They both nodded courteously and walked away speaking softly to each other. I rolled my eyes, they definitely didn't believe me. I picked up the sack of papers the now dead manager wasn't going to do and continued on with my day.
Death wasn't new to me, I was a banshee after all.
That night I decided to go for a beer at my local bar, something was drawing me there and in that moment of realisation, I knew why. I walked into the bar slowly, checking my surroundings for anything unusual. So far so good.
"Hey, Beautiful what can I get you today?" Walking to the bar I smiled at Rodney, always the charmer.
"The usual Rodney, I've had a long day" he smiled before pouring me a beer.
I was minding my own business when I saw them out of the corner of my eye and froze what were the FBI agents still doing here this should be a closed case as far as they were concerned he died from choking on an unknown object. I knew this because a police officer had come over later that day to check I was okay and told me.
Rodney placed the beer in front of me and I smiled handing him the money, "Keep it Piper, like you said you had a long day" I smiled a sweet smile and walked off trying to get a better view of the FBI agents. I would engage in better conversation with Rodney later.
They seemed to be searching details about the building and the owners which was weird what would that have to do with the case. I watched a little longer sipping slowly on my beer.
Moments later I felt it, I was being pulled outside, I placed my drink down on a table nearby before walking out the door leaving my belongings behind. In the alley by the bar I could hear noises, I ran to it to find Rodney pushed up against the wall with the ghost's hands around his throat. Seconds later he went limp, again I was too late.
"Arghhh!!!" I screamed. I looked for something with iron, just my luck I saw a rusty pan in the bin, but before I could grab it the FBI agents stormed into the alley. Damn it!
"Hey! What are you doing!?" I dramatically pulled on a feared face and willed tears to appear in my eyes, "Please help it's happening again" I turned around and ran towards them.
I was stopped dead in my tracks when the vengeful spirit appeared in front of me. "You'll be next" I smirked a small smirk, good luck with that. I couldn't die. At least not in the normal way.
A gunshot made its way through the air and I ducked before it could hit me. The spirit disappeared but what the hell was these agents on, shooting randomly like that!
"What the fuck you could have shot me!!!" they both rushed forward, shit I forgot I'm supposed to be scared. I gathered myself and looked terrified again.
"Why are you always around when someone dies" I glared at the one that spoke, the sexier one. I really should change the way I think about them clearly they are the problem, not the solution.
"Screw you, I came out here when I heard the screaming" clearly acting terrified wasn't going to work with what was coming out of my mouth. I went to move past them when the shorter one blocked my way. Why couldn't I remember their names?
"Where do you think you're going, you're going to answer our questions" there was no way in hell I had time for that, the spirit was coming for me I needed to be prepared.
"Please, I'm so scared, I just want to go home, please, he was my friend" maybe they could believe I was scared and feisty.
