Madison's P.O.V
New Year new me. That's the saying that is going around. Everyone is talking about how they're going tochange and what they are going to do to improve their lives. Going into the new year I did think about what I was going to do with my life and how I am going to change not only for my sake but for my daughter. Walking into my office I went to the window and looked out, snow still covered the ground it would be like this for a while hopefully not too long though I need to open up my business. Unlike other businesses I close for holidays like thanksgiving and Christmas but I decided to be generous and give them the first week off in January plus all my employees will be either too hungover to get the job done correctly or I'll have plenty of call outs. I mean the request off book was filled with people wanting off so they could go enjoy bringing in the new year so I just thought go ahead and give them off along with the roads being bad I didn't want them basically risking their lives for a job. If you can't tell yet one of my new years resolution is to be a better boss. Heading over to my desk nothing really has changed except for the stacks of papers. Each day they are getting smaller and smaller. Picking up one of the files I skimmed over it,
"At least things are finally looking up for this business, everything I do is for my little Addie"
Hearing the elevator doors open I left my office to see Jake coming down the hall way. I have no idea why he's here, but you bet I'm going to find out. I watched as he walked into his office carefully following his steps he seems to be going through one of the cabinets looking for something,
"Can I help you with anything?" I questioned
He jumped obviously unaware of my presence, shaking his head he continued looking through the drawers and cabinets, somethings wrong I can tell,
"Jake what's wrong?" I softly asked not knowing what the answer was going to be
"It's nothing" he choked out "I-I'm fine"
"From the tears running down you're face, you're obviously far from fine"
"Why would you care? I'm just a nuance to you anyways"
He's making this 'be nice' thing extremely difficult "because Jake like it or not I'm still going to care about you, you were a big part of my life"
"It's Claire okay?" he stated, taking a seat in his chair "She hasn't been able to sleep ever since she's had the kids" he ran his hand over his face "even when I've had them she still wouldn't rest and I don't know what to do"
Sitting on his desk I just looked at him, he's never been this vulnerable around me, he must really be worried about her "She'll be okay they're only what?" I paused hoping he would tell me their age
"A month, my kids are only a month old"
"She's still new to this whole parenting thing once she gets them into a routine she'll find time for herself but as of right now she's terrified to sleep or be away from them especially Asher I mean look at what he's been through ever since he came out"
"You're right" he gave out a long sigh "could you maybe come by later and talk to her? please you know mother to mother, she could really use someone" he practically begged "I don't know what she's going through but you do you can connect with her, besides my mother and Tiffany she doesn't have many girls in her life, please Madison I can't lose her"
You know Jake has put me through hell but in the end I'm always going to be there for him, and even if we aren't on the best of terms he still is my daughters father and if she's willing to give him a chance why shouldn't I?
"Okay let me grab Addie and we'll be over, text me your address"
Standing to his feet he wrapped me in the biggest hug and right there it hit me all the memories came back. Looking into his eyes I could feel a connection and by the way he's looking at me I knew he could feel it too.
