"Darling, lets get going!" a woman yelled from below the stairs, suitcases situated near the front door and a taxi waiting outside on the curb. "I want to catch the plane before it leaves!"

"Right...of course..." a man replies as he descends the stairs, trying to fix his tie while carrying a briefcase. He doesn't look pleased.

"Oh, darling," the woman walks up to him, offering in helping with the tie. "I know this came as a surprise, but it's very important that we leave. But I promise it won't take long."

"And what about our daughter, who'll be left alone? By HERSELF, mind you?" he emphasizes, sounding like he REALLY doesn't want to leave. Or like he doesn't trust them leaving.

"Fu-fu-fu," the woman giggles behind her dainty hand. "Darling, she'll be just fine. She has him, of course. She's safe."

The man just frowns in disagreement. "I don't know..."

The woman finishes with the tie, patting his chest with affection as she fixes him a look of adoration. The man slightly recoils at this.

"There is ab-so-lutely nothing to worry about. Our daughter is in good hands, I assure you. Plus, she's always been a good and resourceful girl. Isn't that right, Aya-chan?" she asks, turning her gaze behind the man to face their daughter sitting on the sofa.

The girl in question was reading a book, not at all fazed by what was happening. She turns her emotionless eyes towards her parents, monotone as she spoke. "Yes, mother."

"See, Darling?" The mother playfully pokes her husband on the chest. "Everything's gonna be ok. She's completely capable of taking care of herself. Now, are you ready to go? The taxi's been out there waiting for a while."

Her husband doesn't say anything for a minute, mentally processing everything that's happened in the last 24 hours. They're flying across the country, for goodness sakes! And for an undetermined amount of time?! An in that time, they're planning to leave their 17-year old daughter alone, without any supervision.

He finally sighs in defeat. When it came to Ryoba, nothing could deter her. He's already learned that lesson years ago...

"Ok, fine," he relents. The turns to his daughter, not feeling good about the whole situation but knowing there's no other way around it. "If anything happens, you be sure to give us a call. And you can always go to the neighbors when you need help with something. But, that doesn't mean their son can come over-"

"Darling," Ryoba suddenly cut him off with a warning. "We need to go. Now."

Her eyes, even with that wide smile tugging on her lips, held a dangerous glint in them. It made him momentarily reconsider his options. So rather than incur her wrath, he decided to leave the rest he was going to say behind his lips and just accept what was happening. It would save him a ton of headache... and then some.

"Yes," the dainty hand on his arm suddenly gave a hard squeeze. "Honey," he forced out. "Let us head out."

"Perfect!" Ryoba cheerfully clapped her hands together. "Don't worry, Aya-chan. We'll be back before you know it, ok?"

"Of course, mother," the young girl replies, once again, in monotone.

A car could be heard honking its horn in clear annoyance.

"And that's our ride!" Ryoba grabs at her husband's hand, leading him towards the door. "If you need anything at all, you let that kind boy know. And I'll call when we're done with our trip."

Their daughter doesn't show any emotion towards their leaving. She just wordlessly stands from the sofa and walks towards them, not saying anything.
