I was screaming and crying when I heard a husky mans voice say, "Shut up if you want to live, bitch."
I couldn't see his face because I had a bag over my face. All I saw were dark shadows. There were five men. Two of them were holding two tall figures. One of the figures was bulky and could easily fight out of the mans grasp, what was he waiting for?
The other figure was definitely a women, she was frail and I could hear her whimpering in pain; the man was holding her wrists too tight.
"Hey! let her go! You're hurting her." I yelled. Suddenly one of the figures that wasn't holding onto her came rushing towards me, and grabs me by my collar and shoves me.
All of a sudden there's no ground beneath me and i'm clenching the air struggling to find something to keep me from plummeting to my death. The butterfly's in my stomach rose to my throat making it hard to breath, almost choking me. Finally, I scream and I can breathe again. I gasp for air, still falling not able to see the ground beneath me because of this mask. This is it, and with this mentality I let out my final scream but this time I feel something soft underneath me. No longer falling to my death I sit up realizing that I transported to my bed. It was just a dream, no ones pushing me off of cliffs anymore.
It takes me a few minutes to stop my racing heartbeat. I kick my legs off my bed standing up checking the time, five minutes until i'm supposed to wake up, perfect. I wobble to my closet switching the light on. After my eyes adjust to the blinding light I grab a crop top and pair it with with ripped boyfriend jeans. I slowly walk over to my mirror examining my outfit, for once I am actually putting effort into my appearance. My curly black hair falls to my shoulders framing my face while I apply my mascara.
I went downstairs to see my dad making French Toast, my favorite, odd. "Good morning, dad what's up with the french toast?" I say lazily.
"Morning, I figured you needed it to get through your first day of senior year." He says handing me a plate of deliciousness. My dad is that one in a million that loves waking up early, he says its his way of 'beating the day', and yes, you heard correct this is my first day of senior year. My dad and I just moved to North Carolina, from Arlington, Texas. It's been 3 weeks since the start of the school year, so basically i'm screwed because everyone already knows each other.
"Also you're up quite early, did you want to actually appear presentable once in your life?" I look up from stuffing my face with syrup and carbs, "Gee thanks dad, Its not like I want to be shunned on my first day."
I'm always starting late. This is our third time moving in the past 5 years. I love my dad to death but his job forces us to uproot our entire lives just for him to get a raise. I mean i'm not complaining because i'm spoiled but at the same time I really miss all of my old friends. I still have all their numbers but naturally we've all drifted apart.
My dad snaps me out of my reverie, "Jessica! You're going to be late, since it's your first day you can take my rover." He says throwing his keys directly at my face. I scarf the rest of my french toast down and run upstairs to grab my converse. I grab my phone from its charger and throw it into my backpack.
I find my toothbrush in one of the boxes we haven't unpacked yet and brush my teeth in a rush, I spit out the minty paste and rinse my mouth out. Running down the stairs making sure I grabbed everything. "Bye dad, have fun at work, don't work too hard!" I say sprinting out the door.
I get to the school and I can't help but notice how many people are flooding through the double doors. There were so many people! The realization suddenly hit me and I felt my anxiety kick in. Suddenly I didn't want to be here, I just wanted to go home and sleep for three years and eat all the food in my fridge.
Parking, I checked my reflection in the mirror and reluctantly crawled out of my car. Walking towards the front of the school time slowed as I looked up from my phone realizing all eyes were on me. I feel like i'm under a scientists microscope lens. Feeling insecure I become very aware of my actions hoping I won't trip.
Time seemed to resume as people got bored of staring at me and their attention focused on the girl sauntering towards me. She was absolutely gorgeous, even from a straight girls perspective. She had long silky black hair falling just below her swaying hips. She was wearing a simple grey shirt with skinny jeans and a leather jacket. I notice all the guys staring longingly at her and all of a sudden she's standing in front of me.
"Hey i'm Zara, I don't think I've seen you around before, are you new?" She asks with a glimmer of curiosity in her eyes. "Sadly, I just moved here from Texas, I'm Jessica by the way." I reply looking around and noticing all of the girls glaring at me with their silent judgment of the foreigner that has stepped onto their territory.
Zara noticing their stares clears her throat and says, "Oh, don't worry about them, they will get used to seeing a new face. We don't get many newcomers often, and when we do they usually have a dark past and end up having a Britney Spears melt down halfway through the year." I give her an uneasy laugh, I guess she hit it right on the nail. Realizing i'm uncomfortable she continues with, "Here allow me to escort you to your first period." and with that i'm whisked away, I guess these crowded hallways of Mystic High will where i'll be spending the rest of my high school career.
