"Anna, please pick up. I'm freaking out over here."

"Annaleah please. Just let me know you're okay."

"Anna. Where are you? Tina hasn't seen you since yesterday. Call me!"

I skipped through the rest of Brendon's voicemails and called him.

He picked up after the first ring.

"Anna?"

"Hey."

"Hey? Seriously?"

"Yeah." I say dully.

"Where are you?" He demands.

"I'm...honestly not sure." I laugh bitterly, looking around me.

I apparently fell asleep at some point last night by the side of the road. I was on a highway of some sort, but there was nothing but highway in sight. My car ran out of gas, because of course it did.

"Never do that again. Please." He whispers in my hair.

"I just- I didn't know what to do, or where to go, so I just kept driving and-" tears started to brim my eyes, though I didn't know why.

"It's okay. Let's go home."

"Home? Brendon, she made herself pretty clear."

He doesn't know how to respond for a second.

"We'll figure something out." He nods, opening the door for me.

"What about my ca-"

"I called the towing company. They're on the way." He closed my door, and I lean back on the headrest, closing my eyes.

I knew there was somewhere else I could go. And I knew that whether I was ready to go back or not was redundant at this point.

"There's a loft. In Queens." I say, still with my eyes closed.
