The 8th of November finally arrived. What was so special about the 8th? It was the day earth was blessed with the my arrival. In other words it was my birthday.

I was never really keen to celebrate my birthday and neither was my family since you know it just reminds them about mom so every year we just had this small family gathering with the grandparents from both sides coming over.

I was surprised that this year none of them showed up because they would usually arrive a day earlier to stay over but I guess they had forgotten or Dad wasn't planning anything but I guess that was okay. I was just turning 18 anyway, nothing great about turning eighteen. (Note the sarcasm.) But I couldn't blame them.

It was about seven in the morning and the only people that wished me were my dad and brothers.
Michael (Mike in short) was one of my brothers, he offered me a ride to school today. I didn't decline.

When I reached school nothing exciting or anything great happened because no one knew me and hence no one knew that it was my birthday, well it kinda sucked but I can live with it.

School was alright, same old same old. Nothing really new happened today, other than when during lunch Rachel surprised me with a birthday muffin (Chocolate flavor and that is why she is my best friend) with a tiny lit candle on it.

"Make a wish Carey." And I did.

You know what I wished for? Well as much I want to tell you all I can't because someone (well not someone, I read it in a book) once told me that if you tell someone about a wish it never comes true. But if it does come true then I will surely let you know folks.

"So how is your special day going on so far?" Rachel asks me as I take a bite of the muffin and damn it was so good.

"It's going alright, this is the highlight so far.", I say and gesture towards the muffin.

"Glad you're enjoying that." She chuckles.

"I surely am." I say while chewing the chocolate flavored delight.

"Okay so I asked your dad whether I could come over after school." Rachel tells me.

"Why?" I give her a confused face.

"Cause we are going out Miss. Yayteen." She says.

"No way is my dad allowing that." I say laughing.

"Well he did, so after school me and you are going back to your place and getting ready for the best night of your life."

Best night. Sure. I roll my eyes at her and she glares at me.

"So I got you this." She says and takes out a bag from under my bed.

"How did you even put it there?" I asked her.

"I asked Mark. (Another brother of mine.)" She says and hands the bag over to me.

"You sure you guys don't have a thing going on right?" I ask her seriously.

"Wh-hat? No-o! Why would you think that?" She asks getting all flustered.

"Come on Rach, I'm not blind I see the way you guys look at each other."

"Gosh, you must be imagining things Carey. Now open it!" She says and changes the subject.

"Whatever." I reply and open the bag.

"Oh my god! Rachel? What is this?" I say and hold up the extremely pretty but also more extremely expensive looking dress.

"It's from me to you. I'll be leaving soon after graduation and I just wanted your last birthday until we're college grads to be special." She explains.

"It is special just because you are here, this doesn't make it any more special. But thank you for this."

"You're welcome." she says and I engulf her in a hug.
