James frowned, but shrugged it off.

It continued.

James slid off his bed, and called out, "Who's there?" A quiver was in his voice, he was scared. James only got whispers as response.

Pulling out a flashlight, James bent down, and peered under his bed. And sure enough, someone, something was there. James stared into the creature's white tired eyes. It had a grin, haunting, almost, with toast in it. Frightened, James dropped the flashlight, scrambling on to his bed. The flashlight was soon swiped.

"What are you?" James asked, peeking at the humanoid again. It kept batting at the flashlight. "And where did you get toast?"
The creature replied in garbled speech, gesturing to a plate with more toast.

"What are you?"

The creature stared at James, but then replied again, "What are you?" Speaking English, it had a Norwegian accent, but not too thick.

"I'm a human," James replied.

"Human!"

James frowned. "You aren't human. What are you doing?"

Repeated.

"Stop copying me!" The boy commanded.

"Copy?" The monster asked.

"You're repeating me!"

Cheer in its voice, it repeated, "Repeat!"

Groaning, something struck James. "How can I see you?" The creature shrugged in response, but started crawling out from beneath the bed. James quickly scrambled onto his bed, watching the creature take another piece of toast, curling up on the ground.

"Are you a demon?" James asked hesitantly. The demon nodded happily in response, once again facing James.
