Chapter I: Work then Play

As I'm sitting in my office bored as hell i decided to call my assistant Lisa in so we could talk about this party she's throwing me at her place.
She walked in with a big grin on her face showing all teeth like a little kid on Christmas.
"I see someone's excited about the party" i giggled.
"Yesss i am you should be too girl it's your party."
I shrugged "i mean i am Lis it's just the people who are coming are from work and they're boring the party isn't going to be fun at all" who wants to go to a party with their white coworkers who work day in and day out and talk about hockey teams and coffee everyday? Yeah not me.
"Well do you have any friends you want to tell me about besides myself? If so speak up sis"
I sat there and thought, she's right ever since i started this job after college, i threw my social life away i mean i have social media I'm up to date on "the culture" nowadays, I'm just always busy with work or my boyfriend. But I'm happy so it's okay, right?
"No but so! I still don't want them there, how about you just bring a friend and I'll ask Rihmeek to bring a few of his worker friends he talks about all the time and we can just have drinks and chill, what you think?" I asked her while she sat there in her phone texting away.
"Love it and I'm glad you said something because i was literally about to email the invites out to everyone, so I'll bring my home girl Kayla" she started to walk towards the door until she stopped.
"Oh yeah girl did you hear we have a new Vice President or something and it's a WOMEN"
"What ! But I'm the Vice President!" I picked up my phone and called Alex the CEO.
"So do you care to explain to me who you gave my position to without acknowledging me?"
"Well hello to you too Nicole" he laughed i rolled my eyes i don't have time for his foolishness plus it's Monday and i hate Monday's
"What's going on? Who is this girl that you hired?" I made sure i put attitude in my voice so he knew i was serious.
"She's not your replacement if that's what you're thinking, she's you're partner"
"My what!" I got up and paced back and forth in my office while Lisa sat there looking at me wondering what he's saying so i sat down and put him on speaker
"Yes you need her she's amazing at what she does I've seen her portfolio she's the shit and she's going to be helping you make sure this project for the fall goes perfectly"
"So you don't think i can do my job is basically what you're saying ?"
"Nic sweetheart i think you're amazing i mean look at you you're the boss, i didn't promote you for my health i did it because you deserved it"
"Then why are you doing this to me, i don't need her !" I yelled my voice started to crack i was so mad i work so hard and this is the thanks i get on my first day as Vice President..
He sighed "Nicole.. listen she's not going to be a problem, she's just there to help you out, your position requires a lot of work and i just want to make sure everything stays on course this year, it's what's best for the company. I have to go but if this project fails she will take your place. Have a good day Nicole."
He hung up and i just sat there baffled, it's My first day and I'm already getting threatened about being replaced. I let a few tears slide down my cheek.
"Nic.. don't cry , he's a dick for doing this to you, but maybe this is going to be good, you know"
I scoffed "Please i doubt it, can you leave me so i can apply to McDonald's before i leave"
She giggled "You are so dramatic" her phone started ringing she looked down confused and answered it.
"Yes ma'am I'm coming right away ma'am" she started grabbing her folder and ran for the door
"Who was that?" I asked
"The new boss lady girl and she sounds like a bitch i got to go before I'm next to get replaced"
I laughed but at the same time i glared at her this is not a laughing matter.
"Now i have to share MY assistant with this chick?" I sighed and laid my head down until my cellphone rang, i looked down at it and didn't recognize the caller ID but i answered it anyway because it could've been important.
"Hello?"
"Ms.Maraj come in to my office down the hall to your right"
"I'm busy right now may i ask who this is?" I lied.
"This is Vanessa Lambert I'm your new Vice President/Partner, now come we have some things to discuss"
"Can we talk about it over the phone I'm about to head out to pick up my lunch"
i lied again, i do not want to see this woman right now I'm still pissed i just want some peace and quiet for a minute
"I can have my assistant Lisa do that for you, she's coming to escort you to my office"
Really ? She's my assistant and i don't need no escort I'm grown. She's definitely going to be a problem.
"But.." before i could finish my sentence Lisa walked into my office with a "i hate this bitch" face and i sighed and stood up and fixed my skirt and headed down the hall to the devils office
"I can't believe this bitch made me come get you and bossing me around like I'm some assiss -"
I giggled "Yeah must be hard huh" i said sarcastically
"Still.. even you don't boss me around like this"
"I know boo it's okay just a few more hours then we can go and get ready for this party, because i need a drink now" i opened her office door and Walt's In like i was the baddest bitch in this building .
"Ms.Maraj so nice of you to stop by my office" i wanted to smack the grin on her face.
"Mhm so what is it that we need to talk about, any information you need about the fall project, you can get from Lisa, now if you'll excuse me.." i turned on my heels and proceeded to leave
"Not so fast girl, I already got what i needed weeks ago, I'm just trying to get to know you better so i won't step on anyone's toes" step? Bitch you ran over my toes already and my day barely just started.
"Well look I'm not looking to make friends with anyone, this is business and strictly that" i had my hand on my hip glaring her dead in her eyes
"Understood" she stared right back at me, without breaking eye contact she stood up and walked towards the door and i followed her eyes. She stood at the door and opened it and i looked her up and down and she had a body on her we had a similar shape but i was more caramel toned than her she had a brown tone. For a bout a minute we were having a stare down until she broke the silence.
"Thanks for stopping by Nicole" she opened the door and stood to the side.
As i was walking out i remembered she called me on my personal cell and not my work phone ☎️ i turned around and as i was about to ask her how'd she get my number she closed the door in my face.
"Bitch" i said i stood there for a second debating If i wanted to bust her door down and beat her ass or walk away, i did some serious thinking and as i was about push her door open Lisa stopped me
"She ain't worth it boss lady come on let's go to lunch"
I looked at her with pleading eyes
"I know and i would be happy to jump in but let's go I'm starving" she grabbed my hand and led me to my office to grab my purse and my phone.
I closed my office door and headed for the elevator as we stepped in the elevator Lisa was rambling about something.
"Shit i left my wallet on my desk i be right back hold the elevator for me" she jogged out the elevator and i held it waiting on her until the devil herself walked over to me.
"Is it okay if i join you guys i don't really know what to eat around here"
"My car is a two seater so no" i said bluntly
"We can take my car" she said as she stood next me with that same obnoxious grin
"Got it okay let's go" Lisa walk onto the elevator and eyed me down
I mouthed "she invited herself and we taking her car"
She rolled her eyes and i sighed
This is going to be the longest 10 months of my life.
