"Spencer hun, put this on the table." Ellie hands a stack of condiments over the kitchen island to Spencer who proceeds to place them in the middle of the large glass dining table.
Drayton and Grayson are 'busy' cutting up vegetables. Honestly, I think there's more crude cucumber jokes going on than anything else, but boys will be boys. As for myself, I'm standing at the stove top, flipping home made soft tortillas. They smell incredible and my stomach keeps reminding me that I've not eaten today. I've been too occupied with dictator take downs and gorgeous quarterbacks.
"Hello," an aged masculine voice greets and I turn around to find Drayton's Dad strolling into the kitchen, "there are a lot of teenagers in here."
His brows furrow with amused confusion as he glances around. When his gaze meets Spencer he gives her a warm smile and nod, but he regards me with a puzzled expression.
"Well this is Drayton's birthday dinner, Leroy." Ellie grins while she power grates through a block of cheese. "And these are his friends."
"Really?" He grins and slips out of his designer suit jacket to reveal a fitted shirt that accentuates his large shoulders and massive arms. Good bodies must run in the family. "So where's the team then?"
"Oh please!" Ellie scoffs. "I wasn't going to be hosting the entire football team. It'd cost us a small fortune in food."
"Who's this?" Leroy leans on the other side of the kitchen island and gestures his head in my direction. Drayton glances between the two of us but doesn't hesitate to provide an answer.
"That's Dallas." He smiles, his eyes on me. "My baby Mama."
Tension seizes the entire room. Silence is all that follows his statement. It's so quiet that I can hear the faint hum of the frying pan, the groan of the fridge, the beating of my own heart. Ellie stops mid grating, Leroy's shoulders become rigid and they both stare at me with total bewilderment and a touch of outrage.
"Drayton!" I squeak with hot cheeks.
"You better be kidding!" Leroy snaps, his thunderous glare flitting between the two of us.
Spencer and Grayson are staring down at the floor with smothered smiles dancing on their lips. I'm glad they're enjoying this horribly uncomfortable situation because I certainly am not.
"Yes I'm kidding." Drayton rolls his eyes and waves his hand flippantly. "You're on the pill, right babe?"
I thought I adored this side of Drayton's personality. I don't think it's quite as hilarious when I seem to be on the receiving end of it. I begin to plot out all the ways to get away with his murder while his Dad mutters profanities from his spot at the bar stool.
"Relax," Drayton tells them, sauntering towards the stove with a playful smirk. He wraps his arms around my waist and I take the opportunity of having him nearby, to slap his bare arm, the noise echoes through the kitchen. The atmosphere relaxes a little and everyone resumes the tasks they were doing before.
"What is wrong with you?"
"Ow," he chuckles and rubs his arm where a red handprint is forming nice and bright against his olive skin. "Rough, I like it." He wiggles his brows and leans in, placing a soft kiss against my lips. There's only one person who could possibly annoy me yet turn me on at the same time.
