Chapter 4

The monsters kept coming. I turned to see Logan and Percy scrambling up the hill. They were slower now that only Logan was supporting him. Logan looked back. I gave him what I hoped was an encouraging smile. I tried to hide how invitation I was. At least the two of them would get into camp safe.

I looked at the advancing monsters. I gripped the sword.

I've never even touched a sword and now I think I can kill a few monsters with one.

Stupid

Very stupid

I took a deep breath. No turning back now.

The first monster attacked. I ducked under its axe and slashed at its foot. I missed. I dodged another strike.

I'd be so awesome at dodge ball after this.

Shut up. I thought. This is not the time!

Somehow I managed to slash at its hand. It disintegrated just like the one at school.

I tried dodging another one but the blade caught me in my arm. I screamed. I felt blood run down my arm. I ducked under its legs and cut behind its knee. He also disintegrated.

I could not keep this up for long. I could tell that the cut on my arm was deep. I didn't dare look at it. I'd probably freak out if I did. It's not like I can't look at blood. I just didn't want to freak myself out.

I started backing towards the top of the hill.

I kept my eyes on the monsters. I realized that there were more monsters now. There were only 3 or 4 before. Now there were like a bazillion. Not really. I could make out about 5 more. Not including the ones I killed. But I was sure there were more. I killed about 2 more. I looked down and noticed that I had a few more cuts.

Suddenly I heard a growl to my left. My head turned so fast that I pulled a muscle.

More monsters. Great. Cause the 4 that stood in front of me weren't enough.

I started moving slightly to the right. 2 monsters charged. I ducked and blocked and some how managed to not die.

I remembered Percy saying something about my ADHD helping me in a battle.

3 more left.

One roared so loud that I felt like my ears were going to fall off. I heard more growled and roars in the distance.

Not good. Not good at all.

I had to get out of here before more showed up.

I turned and ran as fast as I could. But I've never been a fast runner. You know that person that's like the easy target while playing tag? The one that everyone goes after when they're 'it'. Ya. That's me.

I looked back to see if they were following me. I was almost there. Less than 10 meters left. But there was no way I could out run them. I turned and slashed. Surprisingly catching one in the chest.

2 more.

I turned to run again but some how one of the monsters had gotten behind me. I backed away to the right. The monster walked towards me in no hurry.

It slashed and I blocked. I backed away faster. I realized this monster was no longer blocking my way to the hill. I walked backwards turning slowly slightly so that it didn't notice.

Finally, my back was to the camp.

Suddenly my heal caught on a tree root and I fell backwards, dropping the sword. The monster growled what I thought was a laugh.

It slashed and I pushed myself backwards. But not fast enough. The blade cut my forehead. The pain shot thorough my whole body. I let out a strangled scream.

The corners of my eyes started to turn black.

No. I said to myself. Not now.

I spotted the sword. I grabbed it and slashed at the monster. It disintegrated. My head hurt and the world seemed to be spinning. I pushed myself up. Which way was which? I couldn't tell left from right or up from down.

I started walking in the direction that was slopped upwards. If a monster came out, I was going to die.

I saw something move to my right. Wait was that my left? Everything was spinning. I kept bumping into trees and I wasn't sure I was going the right way.

The edges of my vision were black and making their way to the middle. I tried pushing them away but it was no use.

I could see a light in a wooden house thing. But it was so far away. And I didn't know which way it was. I kept going.

Then of coarse, me being me, I had to trip. I rolled down one side of the hill. I rolled and summer saluted. And I may have screamed...

I slowly came to a stop.

Pain.

Then, everything went black.
