An hour later we walked out of Nordstrom with bags in tow. I can't resist a sale... oops.
After 15 minutes of trying to convince Emma to go into Crate & Barrel, she finally agreed once I promised her an ice cream on our way home.
Emma was never the type to like doing work that involved big decisions.
That's why she left anything that had to do with the apartment up to me, too many options she's have a psychotic break.
Walking into the store reminded me of a text I needed to send confirming our new apartment.
Fallon: Hey dad! was wondering if you got a chance to mail the apartment lease back?
Dad: Signed and Sent, just needs your signature!!
I smiled at his text, locked my phone and put it back in my bag.
Another thing Emma and I had in common was that we graduated a year early.
Emma had been bullied at her previous school for having two mothers. It took a toll on her physically and emotionally causing her to fall into depression.
Looking at her now you would never guess, she's such a happy and radiant person. She still doesn't like talking about her past, which I respected.
She worked hard and got all her credits it 3 year just to get away from the toxic environment her peers had created. But because we weren't 18 yet, that caused a problem for our independence.
Since we were minors there was no way that we could rent out an apartment without an adult co-signing the contract.
That's where my Dad came in. Once we explained to him the RA situation and was on board with helping us gain ownership of an apartment.
I smiled, "Looks like we're getting our very own apartment!"
Emma squealed and hugged me. Freedom was starting to feel just the way I had imagined it would.
After our embrace we got down to business and started looking around for furniture.

A short while later we had payed and arranged for the furniture to be delivered to the new apartment the following week.
We went into a few more stores buying some items of clothing and shoes, I mean come on? Who can resist these amazing sales.
It had been a total of 5 and a half hours since arriving at the shopping center and we were dead tired.
Emma and I had just gotten out of the elevator onto the parking garage floor we had parked on.
ding
My phone's text tone went off. I rummaged through my bag and pulled it out, unlocking it in the process.
unknown: You look good. Need help with your bags?;)
Fallon: ummm, you're being pretty fucking creepy... who is this???
Unknown: Grayson, but you can call me daddy
I stopped walking and looked around. Emma stopped too, looking at me quizzically.
After looking around for a few seconds my eyes landed on the same BMW that had taken our parking spot earlier that day.
The car's lights were on signaling people were inside. And sure enough, when my eyes focused I could make out the twins.
I glared at the car and pulled Emma with me as I walked over to the car. At this point I was fuming.
First they steal my parking spot then the annoying one acts like a fuck boy trying to use his status to pick me up?? hell no.
Grayson rolled down the passenger's side window with a cheeky grin.
"Guess you both get to carry our bags, considering YOU are the reason we had to park super far away... since you know, stole our parking spot," I said with a fake smile.
They both looked at each other is realization.
"Oh yeah boys, we're THOSE crazy bitches."
Emma had a look of annoyance mixed with amusement as she studied Ethan scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
Grayson and Ethan seemed to make a silent agreement, Ethan took the keys out of the ignition, turning off the car.
They both got out grabbing our bags. Without a word I turned around and started walking to my car.
Grayson followed my strides, coming up next to me. I could see him holding in his laughs.
"How is this funny to you?"
"I can't believe you guys were acting that crazy over a damn parking stall."
I scoffed.
"But we are sorry. Just had a limited time to make this video," he motioned to the camera in his free hand.
A flashing light caught my eye.
I'm not a fucking idiot
"So how long have you been recording me?" I asked nonchalantly.
Grayson stopped dead in his tracks. I stopped walking and turned around met with 3 pairs of eyes.
Emma and I looked back and forth at the two boys.
"Oh come on, you don't think that I'm an idiot and wouldn't see," I crossed my arms, "how long."
"Uh, Grayson... you wanna take this one?" Ethan backed up to stand directly behind Emma, sort of like he was hiding.
"Well... we had footage of your road rage," he started, "and I had Ethan record me hitting on you... and ever since I sent that text."
"Delete it."
"Wait why? We need good content for our channel!" He pleaded.
"What channel?"
Both of the boys looked too shocked to answer.
Emma spoke up, "that's what I was telling you, remember? They're famous from making youtube videos."
"So you weren't just playing hard to get when you rejected me earlier?" Grayson asked in disbelief.
Ethan's laughter broke the silence, he was practically dying on the floor.
"BRO SHE GENUINELY DIDN'T LIKE YOU" at this point he's tearing up.
By now we were at my car and I had opened the trunk, putting in all of the shopping bags.
Emma was waiting for me to unlock the car to get into the passenger seat. I turned my back to the twins and started walking to the drivers door.
"Like I told you before, I didn't get what the big deal was," I said as I opened the door turning to face Grayson and a still dying Ethan.
I gave a wink, getting into the car and pulling out of the parking space.
Emma rolled down the passenger side's window to wave goodbye, enough so we could still hear Ethan laughing at Grayson's rejection.
Before I pulled away I heard Grayson yell, "And like I said before - stick around and you'll find out!"
I looked in the rear view mirror to see a very cocky looking Grayson and Ethan, hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
I rolled my eyes and turned up the music, slowly forgetting about the odd exchange.
Emma sighed, "I still don't get it Fal."
Knowing she meant Grayson I just laughed.
"Ready for that ice cream I promised?"
