Trolls Part 1 (Branch X Jamie)

Chapter 9: A Heart to Heart Talk

Once Poppy was fully asleep, Jamie felt someone tap her shoulder.

"Jamie, you awake?" Branch asked.

"Yeah," Jamie answered then wondered, "What's up?"

"I need to talk to you," he replied.

She sat up and he sat beside her.

"So what's on your mind?" Jamie asked.

Branch sighed and said, "I just wanted to say sorry for what I said to you back at my bunker and when we were walking here. The second was because of Poppy, but I shouldn't have talked to you like that at my bunker. You were right; a real friend would be there to help no matter what."

She placed her hand on his and responded, "It's okay. You're here now; that's all that matters. I know you do it because you don't want the others to know I'm friends with you, but I want you to know that because I'm closer with you than anyone else in the village, I'm fine with them knowing."

"But won't they think you're like me?" he asked.

"There's nothing wrong with you, so I wouldn't mind. And also, thanks for saving my life," she stated.

Branch smiled at that. It felt good to know that Jamie had his back no matter what and he would always have hers.

"You're welcome, Jamie. Where would I be without you?" Branch wondered.

"Probably stuck in your bunker 24/7," Jamie answered, making them both chuckle, then she added, "And also, if it's okay with you, I would like to hear you sing some time."

Branch had a slight frown from that comment. He looked away and Jamie could tell she hit a nerve.

"Good job, Jamie. You managed to hurt the feelings of your best friend," she grumbled.

Branch looked back at her and said, "No, it's fine. I just haven't sung since I was a kid. And it's for a good reason. I don't like to talk about it though."

"I respect that. But I really am sorry," Jamie apologized.

He held both of her hands and responded, "Really. It's okay. You didn't know. I may tell you some time, but right now, it's just hard. I know who to come to though if I need to get something off my chest."

He kissed her forehead and then let his rest on hers. She smiled at his touch.

"We should get some sleep," Branch suggested.

"Good thinking," Jamie responded laid down in her sleeping bag, and then said, "Good night, Branch."

"Good night, Jamie," Branch said.

They soon fell asleep, with dreams of each other.
