Red, Flame, and Jack were sitting across from the airport in Africa, which the two foxlets found out where they were only when Jack showed them a map of his world. Guards were sitting there - not even looking at any of the people going into the building - eating two big sandwiches.
"We could try to sneak in" Red whispered, looking at the two guards. "There aren't that many guards, and there are tons of people."
Even as he spoke, at least five more guards came running over to the entrance, shouting at the two guards sitting on the ground. Uhh, hold that thought, Red told himself. The guards were now checking everyone, obviously looking for them. They weren't getting in that way. The two foxlets followed Jack to the back, where the planes were taking off.
"Under the cargo hold is where the landing gear are stored. We could try to get into the cargo hold through there" Jack whispered as they watched two planes line up on a long strip of tarmac. Red looked around, seeing if there was a way to get past the fence. It was electric, buzzing with energy. He leapt up, just to see if he could clear it, and dropped back down, shaking his head.
"We aren't getting in this way, that's for sure" he growled in a low voice. "Jack, where did you put the cloaks? I did a little something for them just before we left." Jack pulled out the three cloaks they had gotten from the market, and Red put a pin on each. They glistened gold in the sun, but silver in the shade. "Those pins should let you blend into your surroundings, and make you disappear when you touch them" he said as they put on the cloaks.
"When did you learn magic?" Flame asked, ears flicking in amazement. "I thought that power was lost when the dragons left."
"Well, uhh..." Red's tail twitched, unsure. "Learned it on the way, I guess. It just came naturally." Flame stared at him with confusion and shock. "What?"
"It's just... never mind, I'll explain later" she said quickly, not looking at Red as she shrugged the cloak on.
Jack looked from one to the other. "Sooo... are we going to go or not?" he asked impatiently. They slunk along the fence until they were in front of the loading garage, where they transferred all cargo into trolleys before loading everything onto the planes.
"If we can sneak past without being seen, we'll be good" Jack said, looking from one foxlet to the other.
"These pins came in handy, then" Red whispered, touching his pin. It felt like he was slipping into an ice-cold pond. A chill crept from his feet to his ear tips, and he shivered.
"Red, what good will a p -" Flame turned around just in time to see Red disappear. "Red?" she called softly, looking around. "Red, where are you?"
"Touch your pin, It'll turn you invisible for a while" he replied behind her. Startled she touched her pin, and shivered.
"What was that?" she asked, looking around and spotting Red. "I can see you now?"
He nodded. "We can see each other when we're invisible, and that was the magic taking effect" he replied as Jack touched is pin and went invisible. "Let's go."
The three crept up to one of the guards, keeping an eye on him as they went. The guard yawned, but didn't seem to see them. They made their way to the other end of the garage, and Red looked around. "We should be OK to take the cloaks off now, right?" he asked Jack.
"No, not yet. We need to find a plane headed towards the US before it takes off" he replied. "Their website said they were going to be leaving at 3:35, and it's -"
"3:28, I know" Red interrupted, "but the magic is going to wear off by then, we need to give it a little to charge up. Like I said, it only works for a little while." He moved to one of the big tanks of fuel that they use to fill the planes, and touched his pin. Another moment later, they were all sitting, letting their pins charge back up with magic.
