For the first time, Kayla felt that weird sense of euphoria everyone else had felt. It was extremely slight, but she felt better than she had every feeding day, and she wasn’t the only one who noticed. “You’re a lot happier today aren't you!” Tracy said with a smile, clamping shut her History textbook. Kayla did her best to deny it, but her heart protested the rejection of feelings.
As they walked leisurely down the corridor for their next lesson, Kayla looked around for the familiar face- the blue eyes, and the platinum locks. As she started thinking of him, she remembered how his bodyfilled his clothing well, how his long lashes curled gently, how his tongue was a rosy pink- and those thoughts in itself brought back the weird bliss, and the heat that rose to her face. Her heart began to pound again, and her breathing hitched…
Tracy caught her before she hit the ground, yelling something inaudible as her vision fuzzed and her body shivered relentlessly. It was suddenly very, very cold and lethargy swept over her, trying to steal her away from the light. She could feel light slaps on her cheek, people gathering around her, and tears hitting her face. The world darkened abruptly.
When she woke up, her vision was remarkably clearer. Had someone left her glasses on her face? She pat her face. No glasses, and yet, 6/6 vision. That was strange… she struggled to sit up and looked around her. The white sheets and blinds of the infirmary weren’t the most perfect place to rest, for someone who relied heavily on the dark drapes in her room to block out the 9am sun.
She looked around for a sign of anyone, but there wasn’t a trace. Taking a slow step, she steadied her walking and wrote a scribbled note, leaving it on the bed where she had slept. Trying to keep as quiet as possible, she navigated the corridors back to the Dorm for Donneurs. She looked around the empty halls with interest- she had never seen the halls in silence, when the halls were deserted. Her shoes made dull steps on the marble flooring, and she enjoyed the leisurely walk back to the dorm.
She still knew what it was like to wake up at 7am and spend an entire day, frolicking in the sunlight that harshly battered her face. She remembered the way the clear blue sky looked, and how she watched marshmallow clouds drift lazily past - and oh, how she missed it. The cool breeze swirled around her through the open corridors, hair blown into her line of sight.
Her hair didn’t look like a spectacular mop. It actually looked softer, more presentable, and less frizzy. Her fingers slipped through it, and it was suddenly unnatural. Sadly, unnatural made Kayla more than jittery and she figured, something was wrong. It was too late in the day to go to the library, or to consult anyone. Snapping out of her momentary bliss, she abandoned the comfort of the day.
She was taking a light jog back to the dorm- whatever it was made her panic, and all the wanted to do was hide under the blankets in the safety of her room. When she finally got back, panting slightly, she crept into her bed trying not to disturb a sleeping Tracy. She looked at Tracy, then at the bandage on her wrist. It was so real, so prominent, so…complex, all the same. She couldn't bring herself to let that happen to her.
It hit her.
She managed to stop thinking of the mysterious vampire for a while now, the warm sunlight having suppressed her thoughts for a while. She shivered when she thought about him again, and unconsciously clenched her hand tight. The wound from the splinter was nothing but a pale white line now, but the rawness of his motions were there. It was scary, and ironically, comforting. She held that feeling in her heart as that warmth from intimacy spread throughout her body and lulled her to sleep.
