The Run

New beginning.

The walls of city hide so many secrets as the people who live in there. The sun rises every morning to hide the trash the city holds and when the night comes, all the dirt crawl to the streets.

It was in this ambiance that Grace was raised... In these days she's 18 and wants to go to college. She dreams everyday of a better future where she can forget all the trauma she was exposed to. From the days she was left alone with her sister because their parents were too busy in jail, to the days they were at home and both of the girls would receive punches as a gift.

- One day I'll take us out of here. - Grace's sister Athena was 9 years older than her and didn't want the same filthy future of the family for her younger sister. Grace used to look up to her older sister, she was her true role model... not the mother nor the father fitted in that place.

The months were passing and the two girls were still in the same situation, desperate for something good to happen and to get out of that place.

- Do you think we will be able to actually live this house, this neighbourhood... our parents? I mean, I know they don't really care about us but they're mom and dad after all.

- You know Grace, when you were little like 6 years old you always told me you wanted to see the world, that this place was too... you would actually say "this place doesn't fit in my foot". And I promise you that we are going to see the world as you dream. Mom and dad will be fine, they will be thankful when we get out of here.

One day, just after Grace arrived from school, her sister came to her and said:
- I have a new for you.
- Is there something wrong? Mom or dad are in jail again?
- No... grab a chair and sit here next to me.
Grace grabbed the chair, worried that something bad was happening, and sat down  next to her sister listening carefully:
- The first thing is that I got myself a new job... the second is that the job is abroad...
Grace had to interrupt Athena because she was thrilled with the news. Her sister with a new job? Abroad? That was the best news she received in ages!
- Oh my God! That's so good Athena! I'm so happy for you! When are you going and where exactly is the job?!
- Calm down kid, I'll tell you everything if you let me... - Athena was laughing because of her sister's reaction to the news. The best was yet to come and she was already all excited. - Has I was saying, my job is abroad, more precisely  in Paris. I'm going to work in a five stars Hotel called "Le Magnifique". The best part is that you are coming with me! I managed to get you a job in the cleanings and we can both leave this crappy town together!

Grace couldn't believe what her sister was telling... Going to France.. Paris.. Europe! With her sister! That was too good to be truth.
- Athena, do you really think that we can go like this to Paris? Is too good to be truth...
- Sister, the job is ours. We only need to book the trip, take care of the papers and go. We can leave America for good. We don't need to come back. No more violence, no more sadness... No more Trump for f*ck sake!
Grace laughed with the commentary and instantly started to think what to put on the bags:
- Ok, I'm in! Let's go to Paris!

Ten days after they were both in a plain with destination to Paris. Low fare flight, not much in the bags but a lot of baggage.
