<Liza>

I sat down on my couch in my apartment and pulled my book out again, but put it down to think.

He saved me.

I could have very well died in that alley way. Whether it be by bleeding out or being beaten even more, I could have died.

Images shot through my mind of his quiet room. The walls were a faded white, some what like mine. Different succulents fitted the room, one being in an indoor planter hanging from the ceiling. His bedsheets were white, with a deep brown comforter. It gave off this earthy tone, which is calming to most.
It was almost like I was in a daze thinking about how perfect his room was.
There weren't any curtains on the windows. But they were open, the sweet smell of vanilla and rain mixed together so perfectly. Something I could recognize out of anywhere, something I can't forget.

I got up and made my way to the kitchen, remembering I had to go to work today.
With a push of my glasses, I walked back through my living room to my bedroom.
I slid on some ripped skinny jeans and a long sleeve white shirt.
It seems that Mr. Goodson didn't have much of a dress code when it came to work.

I applied a minimal amount of makeup to my skin, like I did everyday. Grabbing my low strapped black bag, I slid into some Vans and unhooked my keys from the holder on the wall.

The drive was quick and quiet. There wasn't much traffic. I picked up another shift at the pharmacy, knowing Mr. Goodson didn't have many hands on deck and I needed the money.

I stepped into the building, with the little bell giving the signal that someone was here.
"Elizabeth! Good morning."
Mr. Goodson greeted me with a quick smile and made his way towards the back.
I grabbed a few boxes and started to restock shelves as I always did.
The bell went off again.
I peeked around the corner to see Alex.
Why was he here so early?

"Mr. Goodson?"
There was worry in his voice.
I walked over to him, dropping the box.
"Alex?"
"Liza."
Mr. Goodson came around the corner.
"Is everything okay Alex?"
Alex shook his head.
"I-It's David. I can't get him to calm down. He didn't take his medicine."

Mr. Goodson's face dropped as mine turned to worry.
"Elizabeth, lock it up."
Goodson grabbed a box of something from be hide the counter along with his keys.
"We're closed for the day."

He and Alex bolted out the door.
I just stood there in shock, but soon came to my senses.
I grabbed my things and locked the door to the pharmacy.
I jumped into my car and drove as fast as possible to David's apartment complex.

I followed the two men up three flights of stairs and down the hall to David's apartment. Alex busted the door open and ran to David's room.

The beauty I once knew was in pieces.
There were holes in the walls, sheets ripped off the bed, and the planter was turned sideways on the floor.
But the one thing that stood out to me, was that the window was closed.
The smell was no longer present.

Instead the room was filled with the scent of alcohol. Something that was all to familiar.

And there, on the edge of the bed, with his head in his hands, was David.
With an empty whiskey bottle in front of him.

One pill bottle at a time.
