Frisk bolts upwards, sweat rolling down their frightened face. "Frisk!" Flowey says worriedly. Frisk's fingers fumble to their chest, feeling for a wound but... Nothing. Not even a scratch. They look down, trying to collect their thoughts. "I..." Frisk mumbles softly. All they can think about is the sharp pain of a spike impaling them. "Are you ok?" Frisk doesn't answer, the memory replaying in their head like a broken record. "Frisk?" Flowey waves a leaf in front of Frisk's face, tilting his petal lined head in concern. "Died..." Frisk whispers. Flowey's eyes widen in surprise, but Frisk can tell that he understands. He looks at the puzzle of spikes ahead of them, and back at Frisk. "You've... Already been there?" Frisk nods. "Died..." They repeat. Flowey thinks for a moment, before disappearing into the soil. Frisk looks around. "Flowey?" Flowey pops up on the other side of the puzzle, telling Frisk to stay where they are. A long thick vine sprouts up from the soil in front of Flowey, and stretches across the puzzle. It roots itself in the soil near Frisk's feet. "C'mon!" Flowey calls. Slowly, Frisk gets up from the ground, cautiously making her way across the vine. "Hurry! We don't have all day!" Flowey says anxiously. Frisk steps safely onto the other side of the puzzle, and Flowey draws his vine back. It snakes around Frisk's feet before slipping into the ground. Flowey gives a small gesture with his head that he is ready to move on, but Frisk just looks at him curiously. "What?" Flowey asks, clearly uncomfortable by Frisk's inquisitive gaze. "How did you know?" Flowey opens his mouth answer, but pauses. "I used to have that power... The ability to Save and Load... To Reset." Flowey says slowly. "I gave up my power a long time ago, and now; it's gone to you." Frisk tilts their head in confusion. "You don't get it, do you?" Flowey sighs. "Never mind. Let's get moving." Frisk nods and carefully scoops up Flowey from the dirt, brushing some of the soil off of his roots. They place him on their shoulder, and he curls his roots around Frisk's neck, being careful not to choke them. He asks if it is comfortable, and they nod, beginning the rest of the trek through the Ruins.
. . .
"Frisk, wait a second." Frisk stops in her tracks, looking around. Flowey unfurls from his position on Frisk's shoulders, peeking out from her short brown hair. The faint sound of tapping feet can be heard in the distance.
"Frisk..." Flowey whispers, anxiety growing in his tone. "Frisk, we have to hide." Without a second thought, Frisk looks around, spotting a tree in the next room. She rushes to the trunk, clutching onto the lowest branch and hoisting herself up. The footsteps are growing louder as Frisk settles down behind the crimson colored leaves, Flowey shaking in her hands. A large shadow is cast below them, and they freeze, blood running cold. A pair of white fuzzy paws emerge from the leaves to brush away the branches. "Child?" A voice calls. Frisk flinches in surprise, almost dropping Flowey. A strangely goat-like woman is peering up at them, eyes round. She wears a long black robe with strange white symbols on the chest. "My child, please come d—" Without another thought, Frisk leaps from the tree and tumbles to the ground with a thud. She holds Flowey protectively in her arms, shielding him from the impact. "Wait!" The voice yells, sounding desperate. Frisk fumbles while trying to stand, a sharp pain shooting through one of her ankles. She tries to run away, but a wall of flames flare up, blocking her only means of escape. With her options quickly running thin, Frisk turns to face the monster. The woman emerges from the flames with her arm raised, a glowing white hand held out towards them. A sickly feeling suddenly washes over Frisk, and the monster hushed her as she stumbled and fell to the ground. "Frisk!" Flowey's voice sounds foggy. "Frisk, get up!" A feeling of heaviness overwhelms her as she falls into the blackness.
