Jack carefully cradled the princess in his arms as Pat lead the way with Blaine over his shoulder. He truly felt guilt over having to drug the princess but he knew that it was the only way to save his race from the oncoming war. They traveled a long way with only the light of the stars and the moon to guide them. They both knew that to stop would mean risking getting caught by the palace guards. They walked until the light of their camp’s fire shone through the shrubbery.

“Aidon wants us to put the girl in her tent and take the boy directly to him.” With a nod Jake carried the princess to her tent where he was to guard her against his people and keep her from leaving. He couldn’t help but be reminded of his own little sister. The ache in his hart subsided when he remembered why he was the only one left to care for her. Leaving the girl on the mat he walked out and stood at his post.

Blaine woke with a terrible headache and immediately sprung to attention even as his body protested such movement.

“Why would you try to defy me Blaine? You know what is at stake.” His alpha’s voice demanded an answer.

“Forgive me alpha, but I did not want to cause her harm.” Blaine looked up into the eyes of his father. They may have looked similar in all aspects but that is where the similarities ended. Where Blaine took after his mother’s soft heart his father remained cold and firm when it came to the pack’s safety.

“You forget your position, do not try it again or I will be forced to do something rash.” His father’s eyes flashed with a cold warning. Blaine knew that he would be watched closely after this.

“Yes father.”

“Good, know send your sister to attend to the princess’s needs. I must see to our patrols, oh and do try to distance yourself from the girl. I do not want any more complications.” Blaine quickly left his father and went to see his sister. She was the one who was opposed to kidnapping the princess the most but like him and everyone else she could not disobey direct orders. He stopped at the entrance of her tent and watched as she peeled the petals off her plants to create a poultice known for healing cuts.

“I can feel you staring and I have a feeling it’s not because you find my task so invigorating.” She turned to face him and saw his deep sorrow.

“Sarah, how much longer do you think before father chooses to follow mom in her fate?” Sarah reached for his hands and led him to the table where she put him to smash some berries.

“Do not ask something that you know I cannot answer. I do not wish for father’s role as leader to fall on you so quickly but I fear that he will soon join mother and haunt these woods as a spirit.” She answered truthfully always wanting to comfort him with her truth.

“I cannot go through with this but he has ordered me to keep my distance from Rose and my inner beast cries out in protest.”

Sarah knew what that meant she was the only one who knew about what the ancestors did in order to preserve their bloodline but she was not able to tell her brother that the princess was his true mate.

“Don’t worry she will not be harmed. Now come along it’s time I meet this princess.”

“How could this have happened!?” The king bellowed out to his guards. “Where is my daughter? Who has taken her?”

William paced behind his father. He and his brothers were outraged that someone would dare to harm their little sister.

“We have reason to believe that the deGris clan has taken her. She was seen with the leader’s son leaving the market but they were attacked. I have sent my best men in search of them.”
