Me and Grace talked all lunch. I didn't have any classes with her after lunch, so we got to know each as much as we could before lunch ended.

I'm not a very social person. It surprises me how me and Grace get along so well.

I remember the first day I was in the Smiths orphanage. What a terrible day that was.

Flashback

We pulled up to a big prison like building with barred windows and a big metal door.

The whole aura around the orphanage was dark and sad. Like a funeral home. I hate funerals. Mommy and Daddy had a funeral and I haven't seen them since.

The social worker told me they passed away. I wonder who passed the away.

I got out of the car and clutched Mr. Bear. I was scared.

"What's going to happen to me?" I asked the social worker.

"Your going to live here until a new mommy and daddy take you." He said smiling.

"No I don't want a new mommy and daddy!" I yelled. I tried to run out after the social worker but a lady took me and threw me into a small crampt room.

There was small blankets on the floor. At least fifty girls were in there.

The lady gave me a little blanket and said that's where I slept. I curled up in a ball and cried.

End of flashback

That day all I did was cry. That was the day I realized mom and dad weren't coming back.

~~~~~~
I rushed through all the rest of my classes and Dan picked me up after school.
"How was you first day?" Dan asked in his happy Voice.
"It was ok."
"Did you make any friends?" He asked as I got in the passengers seat.
"You can say that."
"That's good! We're going to go pick up something before we go home ok?" He said driving out of the school parking lot.
I nodded and looked out of the window, watching the hell called school disappear.
I guess with Grace and the others I won't be as lonely. But I will still be alone.
I looked out the window and realized where we were.
We pulled into the parking lot of Wal-Mart.
"What do we have to pick up?" "Dinner and other stuff." Dan said As he took the key out of the ignition.
He got out of the car and I followed him into the store. The store bustled with shopping carts and people with their children. I watched as a woman chased after her son around the store laughing.
I wish I had a family like that.
Dan grabbed a shopping cart. He walked into the cereal isle. He grabbed some lucky charms and some healthy granola cereal. "What kind of cereal do you want Skye?" "Oh...I.....you don't have to buy me anything." I said as he put some cheerios in the buggy.
"Skye please just pick out some cereal. Your our daughter now. I know what you've been through. Your social worker gave me the run down before we got you. I want to give you a good life, so please just pickout some cereal. " He said poking his lip out when he finished.
I giggled at his silly face and grabbed some coca puffs, giving in. "Thank you sweetheart." I smiled a big smile.
We went through the store together as he forced me to pick out some food for myself. I've never really had someone be this nice to me.
Dan paid for the groceries and we left. The car ride was quiet except for the occasional joke from Dan. I liked him and Jen. They were actually nice. I couldn't believe I had actually found what feels like my home.
~
We walked through the door holding the bags of groceries. Cloe came running up to us with a huge smile on her face.
"Pwesents?!" "No Cloe these a groceries. " "Glowseries?" She asked Dan cocking her head to the side. She opened her beautiful blue eyes as wide as they could go. She is so adorable.
It's weird but, when I met cloe, I felt an instant connection with her. One I only knew as the connection one shared with their sister.
"Yes. Exactly right cloe bug." Jen said nipping at her nose as she giggled.
I walked into the kitchen leaving the happy family in the entry way to the living room.
"Skye! Where'd you go?!" I heard Dan and Jen yell after me. They actually noticed the loss of my presence?
"I'm uh right here" I said peeking my head around the doorway looking into the living room.
"Here, I'll help you unpack the groceries and then we'll all sit down and watch a movie. That sound good?" Jen asked with her contagious smile. I nodded with I smile on my face as she got up and entered the kitchen.
"How was your day?"
"It was ok. I just have to get used to everything here. And you?"
"It was normal, you know taking care of cloe, working. " Jen shrugged her auburn curls bouncing with the movement of her shoulders.
"Oh, what do you do?"
"I work for Hancock inc. I'm an office worker. I mostly just fill out paper work. "
"Do you enjoy it?" I asked. A lot of people hate their jobs. I wanna get to know Jen.
"I actually love my job. Even though it's boring to most people, I find it interesting."
"You know, I could use a job." "Why? We can get you the things you need." Jen said putting up my cereal.
"Well I wanna save up for a car. I have my driver licence. I just need a car."
"We can get you one no problem!" "No Jen, I want to get my own car." I said hoping she'd understand. I want to get my own car, with my money, that I earned.
"Oh, I see. Well I think I could talk to one of my friends. She's looking for a babysitter. "
"Thanks Jen. That could really help." I said as we finished putting up everything.
Me and Jen walked to the living room as Dan scrolled through movies on Netflix.
We all decided on A dog's purpose. I couldn't focus on the movie though.
They're happy. Why did they choose to take me in?
They could have just lived their lives happily without me.
Why do they want me?
