I wake up in a cold sweat. What the hell was that thing? I can't stop thinking about what that...thing was. My mind races and I start shaking. "Ev-" I look around and see no sign of Evan. "Evan," I say. "Evan!" I yell. "Evan! Evan where are you!" I yell. The young boy runs into the room. "Miss. I'm right here. Are you okay?" The child looks at me with fear and worry. I grab the kid and pull him into a tight hug. Tears started to fall down my face. "Are you okay Miss?" He asks me again. I try to regain my breath as the young boy and myself sit hugging. "Hey, Evan." I say as I look down at the child. "Yes, Miss?" He says. "Call me Mama." I tell him. He smiles brightly at me. "Okay...Mama." He hugs me tight. I smile to myself and hug him. Someone clears their throat and I immediately whipped my head in that direction. "Ivan needs you," Marissa says. She looks at Evan. "I told you she cares now didn't I?" She asks with a smile. She puts one hand on her hip. Evan smiles shyly. "I just didn't think I would have a Mama again." He says looking down. The room falls silent. I stand up and brush some of the fuzz off of my clothes. "Okay. Let's get this day rolling again." I smile and say. I take Evan's hand and walk out the door. Kyle walks up to me and starts explaining the game plan for the rest of the day. "So who's being the detective?" I ask with air quotes around the word detective. Kyle shrugs. "Whoever decides wants to." He says. I look around the large room. Nobody seems to want to volunteer to go back out there. "I'll do it." I say with a small sigh. Evan grips my hand tightly. "No!" He yells in protest. "You're not going!" He hugs me as he buries his face into my pant leg. "Evan sweetie," I kneel down to him. "If we want to get out okay, I need to figure out what's going on." I rustle his hair. He lightly smiles at me and sighs. "It'll be okay." I smile gently and reassuringly. "Pinky promise?" He looks at me with tears in his eyes. I wrap my finger around his. "Pinky promise." I smile lightly.
I stand up and look at the others. "What do I need to do?" Evan squeezes my hand tightly. I look down at him and the fear in his eyes broke me. I gently sigh and look up at the others. The room fell silent and we all stood in anticipation. Ivan finally broke the silence. "Come." He waved his hand for me to follow him. I reluctantly let go of Evan's hand and follow him. Looking back, I see tears trickle down Evan's little face. Kyle has his hand on his little shoulder and Melissa is wiping the tears from his eyes. I look away and wipe my eyes before the tears can fall. "This won't be easy." Ivan says to me in a monotone voice. "I know." I reply with my fists clutched. He sighs and stops at the doorway to what seems to be a closet. I tilt my head slightly in confusion. The closet door swings open and a bloody knife falls off of a shelf. A rifle with a silencer leans up against the wall of the closet and a head with no face seems to be looking right at me. I yelp and jump back. Panic covers me and my breath hitches. Ivan puts his hand on my shoulder and tells me to breathe. I close my eyes and try to regain myself. I open my eyes once my breathing goes back to normal. I notice something off about the manikin head laying on the ground at my feet. There's blood at the base of it. But who's is it? "Did someone else get hurt?" I ask sharply, trying not to sound scared. Ivan shakes his head no. "When we found you a manikin ran up on us with this rifle ready to shoot," he gestures to the gun. "I took this knife out and decapitated it. This blood came from the manikin." He says with a small quiver in his voice. So many questions flew through my mind and I couldn't come up with answers. It was driving me insane being here. I had to get out. We all had to get out. We both stood silent for what seems like forever. "So these things are alive?" I finally break the silence. "Seems like it." He said. I kneel down and pick the manikin head up. I don't know why I picked it up but I did. The dried blood crunched as I held the head in my hands. As I turn the manikin head in my hands looking for anything that might help, I notice the same scratches on the manikin that was on Kathelen. So it doesn't just want us. Good to know. "Notice something?" I hold the head up to Ivan. "Just the blood and the-" he stops mid-sentence. "The scratches." He trails off at the end and once again, we both fall silent. He stares at the manikin and his eyes scanning it rapidly. I study his face and watch as his eyes flick back and forth. He looks at me, searching for answers that we both know I can't give. I stand up and turn to walk away. "Where are you going?" He asks. "I'm going to investigate.
