Young Vlad Tepes paced aggressively back and forth in his cell, his younger brother, Radu, watching him. If you looked closely, not that he would let you of course, you could see multiple scars crisscrossing Vlad’s back, probably from the multiple abuses that was inflicted upon him, due to the fact that he insulted his captors whenever he was able. Radu shook his head at his brother “Why don’t you do what I’m doing?” Vlad swirled on him, his eyes flashing dangerously “Do what exactly? Conform to their ways? Give in to them? I think not! We don’t even belong here!” Radu fell silent for a moment as Vlad went back to pacing. After a moment Vlad stopped facing a wall instead of his brother and snorted “We are captives, to make sure our dear father keeps his end of the bargain, which we both know he won’t. I don’t belong here and I will never belong here and if they try to make me when I get the throne they will bitterly regret it.” The sneer on his face was evident to Radu even though he couldn’t see him. Radu rolled his eyes, of course he would say that. They had been here for three years and he had been saying the same thing. Over and over again. They would regret it. Radu knew and heard what his brother shouted at the soldiers that watched over him, to be sure he didn’t try to escape or something of the sort. No wonder he was whipped and beaten at least once a day, sometimes more. Radu watched his brother continue before he said “Well, as nice as it has been to see you dear brother, I must-“ Vlad cut him off “Why did you come?” The question was nearly a growl, Vlad was facing Radu now “You have taken to the life of the Ottomans, converted to their religion. You even joined the Ottoman army.” Now Vlad looked at him for the first time. The hatred and anger that shined through his eyes left Radu speechless for a few moments “I came because you are my brother and I wanted to try and fix this before it went too far. But I see that was a mistake. I will not be able to change your mind therefore I will not return.” Vlad merely stared at me with an indifferent mask. Radu paused at the steps of the prison “Know that what comes of this is your own doing, not mine.” With that he closed the door and the light faded from the room, leaving Vlad in the dark.
