Sitting Under the Stars

He was sitting on top of the roof, his feet dangling off the edge of the hotel.

One can only wonder how he had even reached up there.

He had a cigarette in his hand, staring at the sky as day slowly turned to night, and all the stars came out of their hiding places. The wind was blowing, making the night seem harsher than it really was, and he paid no heed to it. The golden boy could care less.

Not when he had other things to worry about.

The only signs of his presence were the long, white clouds of smoke spewing from his mouth.

He wasn't the only one that had virtually no one to confide in.

Salt, having thought she could get a moment to herself, stepped onto the roof after having climbed up a set of stairs and through the doorway.

The cold wind brushed her glass body and gave her chills.

She saw his silhouette against the bright sky, and hesitated for a moment.

Her mind was running amok with thoughts of the possibilities that could sprout if she had only sat herself next to him. For a second, she had even considered just going back down to her room.

Then she just ditched it.

She walked up to him, and sat right next to him.

They were both feeling the awkward tension, until Trophy broke the silence.

"Hey."

Salt hummed softly, feeling a bit out of place amongst a guy like him.

Guy like him.

Those words were suddenly ringing out in her mind.

Her own mind didn't even know what she meant when she said that.

"So, what you doing out here?" He continued.

She looked down at her feet.

"Getting some alone time, that's all."

"I thought you were hanging out with your spicy friend. You know, the Pepper one."

"Hey, sometimes you can't rely on Pepper for all your problems. You need some self-evaluation."

Trophy looked genuinely shocked, but shook it off and continued.

"You know, it's cold outside. You shouldn't even be here."

Salt was suddenly confused.

"Are you driving me away?" She said softly.

"No way. If you wanna stay here, fine by me. I'm just saying."

Then they both sat in silence for a bit.

This time, Salt spoke up.

"The sky's nice, isn't it?"

"Yeah. I mean, the stars are nice to look at. They remind me of what could have been if I hadn't been eliminated off of that stupid game show."

Suddenly, she grew very concerned.

"What do you mean by what could have been?"

He blew out another cloud of smoke, which concerned her even more, and continued with his statement.

"I mean, if I wasn't eliminated, I could still be ruling over Knife. I still have to wonder why I got voted out. I mean, they didn't think a cardboard box was stupid enough to be deemed worthy of elimination. That's sincerely messed up."
