With a soft thud Ellie closes the door of her apartment, locking it with her key. She puts the key in her purse, quickly checking if she hasn't forgotten her grocery list. After confirming it's still in the same spot she put it in a few minutes ago, Ellie re-adjusts her big empty grocery bag on her shoulder and turns away from the door, ready for the journey to the supermarket. She walks through the empty echoing hall, down the stairs and leaves the flat, trying to conceal her fear of what just happened in the bathroom. After the thing disappeared and Ellie managed to calm herself down enough to function, she quickly dressed herself in some simple clothes, made a list and immediately left her apartment. She did not want to be in there anymore.

The walk to the supermarket is very short, maybe ten minutes. Ellie has always been really happy with the location of her apartment; next to the bus stop and a supermarket and other stores in a short walking distance. There's also a forest nearby. It just sucks that her apartment now seems to be haunted for no reason. Ellie sighs, a shudder going down her spine. 'I've done nothing wrong.' Ellie thinks to herself as she walks on the sidewalk next to a busy street filled with driving cars. She hasn't done any weird paranormal things, she hasn't messed with the dead and she most certainly has never even laid a finger on an Ouija board in her entire life! Because, if there was one thing her mother repeatedly told her, it was to never mess with invisible forces greater than herself. A strange bit of advice, but one she never forgot.

A car honks loudly, stopping Ellie's train of thoughts and making her look around for whatever the car honked at. She quickly realises after yet another furious honk that it's meant for her, as she stands in the middle of the busy road and apparently forgot to look if she could actually cross it because of her thoughts. A car stands still in front of her, impatiently waiting for Ellie to move. Ellie turns towards the car with a red face and smiles apologetically to the driver, as she suddenly sees a black mass behind his seat. Ellie gasps, all the colour leaving her face. She stares at it, not realising the man behind the wheel rolled down the window of his car.

"Hey missy! Stop staring and move it!" the driver angrily shouts, making Ellie jump in her spot and run to the sidewalk to the opposite side of the street, apologizing profusely. The tears spring in Ellie's eyes as she keeps running, her heart racing as she panics and feels ashamed of her actions. She feels really stupid for getting so distracted that she put herself in danger and made people angry. As Ellie reaches the supermarket she waits at the side of the building for a little while, trying to calm herself down a bit more and to dry her eyes.

After a few minutes Ellie enters the supermarket, a bit calmer but still paranoid, a little bit of red dusting her nose and cheeks. She grabs a basket and goes around the store to collect all the things she needs, constantly thinking she sees a black mass at the corner at the end of every aisle. It's just for a split second, but Ellie is sure of what she sees. The fear and paranoia causes her to constantly look behind her as she walks to the cash register. She chooses the one with the smallest queue and dumps her stuff on the counter, impatiently waiting for her turn. The cashier friendly greets Ellie as she starts scanning her items. Ellie greets the cashier with a forced smile as she quickly stuffs all her groceries in her bag. She pays the cashier and leaves the register without a receipt, wishing the cashier a good day as she speed walks to the exit.

The way back to Ellie's flat goes ten times faster than her way from earlier this morning, even though she has to carry all the heavy groceries this time. Ellie walks so fast that it almost looks as if she's running, sweat forming on her forehead. She constantly looks left and right, all around her and in front of her. She's very scared and feels unsafe, it's easy to read off of her distressed face.

"Stupid black mass, entity or whatever this stupid thing is!" Ellie silently curses to herself, hoping it will not hear her, wherever it is. Ellie is pretty sure it's close, even though she doesn't want it to. Ellie quickly crosses the busy road, this time making sure that it's safe to do so, instead of just mindlessly crossing it. After a few minutes Ellie can already see her flat.

As Ellie speed walks up to the door of the flat, she fiddles with her hand in her purse, trying to reach her keys. As she finally gets a hold on it she yanks it out with such a force that it accidently slips out of her hand and slams against the door, sliding to the floor. Groaning, Ellie halts to a stop and kneels down to grab the keys. As she does so, she sees black mist coming from under the door, flowing over her keys. Ellie freezes, her hand stopping above the mist. She slowly looks up, towards the big window in the door and sees the black figure covered in black mist on the other side, looking down at her. Ellie screams loudly, dropping all her groceries and falling back on her behind. She sees the mist flowing around her, over and under her knees, around her groceries. It feels so cold. Panicking, Ellie feels the tears streaming down her face. She desperately tries to steady her ragged breaths. She raises her hands to cover her eyes, not wanting to see all this mist anymore and she cries.

After a while Ellie hears the click of the door in front of her. Confused and terrified, she looks up to see a worried, young man looking down at her, the black figure and the mist all gone. She doesn't know who it is, but she recognizes it as a fellow resident of the flat. He has an apartment on the second floor, Ellie believed.

"Hey, what's wrong?" he asks to Ellie.

Ellie blinks and quickly rids her face of her tears with the rough fabric of the sleeve of her coat, hurting her puffy eyes but not letting it show.

"Nothing, I just fell I guess..." Ellie mumbles softly as she moves to sit on her knees, her voice cracking a bit. She quickly reaches for her grocery bag and starts to put all the fallen groceries back in the bag.

"Doesn't really look like it," the man says as he awkwardly looks away and kneels down in front of Ellie. He turns to her again. "you look like you've seen a ghost."

Ellie ignores his comment and loops her now full grocery bag around her shoulder. The man grabs the keys that still lay on the ground and hands them to Ellie, smiling kindly. Ellie grabs them and mumbles a quick thanks before she stands up and unlocks the flat door, trying to look as calm and collected as possible as she sniffles a bit, leaving the man there. Ellie calmly walks up the stairs and watches the man shrug and walk away, probably continuing to do what he planned on doing before he found Ellie crying on the ground in front of a closed door surrounded by groceries like an idiot. Once the man is out of sight, Ellie sprints up the stairs to the third floor. Once she reaches it, she slams the door open, leaving the staircase. She once again cringes as the loud noise echoes through the empty hall, but Ellie tries to ignore it as much as possible. Her speedy steps echo through the hall as she sprints to her apartment, struggling to quickly untangle the keychain that's wrapped around her finger and opening the door. She steps inside and closes the door immediately, leaning against it. With a long, shaky sigh, Ellie glides down the door, eventually landing on her butt on the ground and breaks down again, allowing the tears to fall.
