The stinging pain from her face had now died to a low throb. It feels so good to feel the wind in my fur again, Emberflame thought joyfully.
Raccoonsky led the way through a tall patch of heather. The musky scent of it sent Emberflame back to when she and her friends were apprentices. They had spent their days training, playing, and hunting in this exact patch of heather not three moons ago with Moonbreeze, Raccoonsky, Swiftstorm, and Ravenpaw
"Alright. Texaspaw, do you know how to mark a border?" Swiftstorm mewed to the russet apprentice. Texaspaw shook her head. Swiftstorm marked the border, rubbing the dusty scent of WindClan on nearby river reeds that marked their border with RiverClan. "You can do the next one Texaspaw." He purred.
They padded the rest of the way to the ShadowClan border in silence. Emberflame could feel Darkmoon's tail resting on her shoulder, making sure she didn't slice open the raw skin on her blue eye. The heather was thick here, and could cut cat's paws, so her face was an easy target.
The heather soon died away to reveal a stretch of soft green grass. The strong smell of ShadowClan blew over the border, signaling a patrol was headed this way. Texaspaw stiffened as three Warriors and a apprentice bounded over to them. Darkmoon yowled a welcome, and Swiftstorm bent down to Texaspaw to explain that they were allies with ShadowClan, for now.
"Darkmoon! Good to see you! Tell me, how is WindClan recovering?" Mewed a white-and-gray tabby. It's the ShadowClan deputy, Duskfang, Emberflame noticed.
The apprentice, a tortoiseshell she-cat named Shadowpaw, bounded over to Texaspaw, greeting her enthusiastically. "Shadowpaw! Hey!" Texaspaw mewed. She eagerly began to talk. "Did you see when I scratched that rogues ear? He ran like a kit!" She squealed. "Yea! I got that one that ran into a tree! I hope he loses his tail because I clawed him so bad!" Shadowpaw purred.
Emberflame's ears perked up. Oh good. Nice to know that brown tom got shredded.
"So Darkmoon, is anyone seriously injured?" Duskfang cut in. "Well, yes." Darkmoon mewed. The other two Warriors, a cloudy gray she-cat, and a black tom, padded over to Darkmoon.
Raccoonsky, Swiftstorm and Texaspaw had gone hunting, leaving Emberflame alone with Darkmoon. Duskfang cocked his head. "Who?" asked a she-cat.
"Oh, and I'm Grayleaf by the way." She finished quickly. Emberflame ducked below Darkmoon, knowing he wouldn't mind. He had mentored her while Dawnheart had kits, and he had grown to love her like the father Mintclaw should have been.
"Emberflame, I know your not used to this yet, but please come out." Darkmoon mewed gently. "But I'll scare them. Like Brightheart had once." she whimpered. "No you won't." said the black tom.
Grayleaf padded slowly around Darkmoon, and crouched down besides Emberflame. "Come on Emberflame, turn to face me." Grayleaf purred. Emberflame quietly turned to face her, leaning more to the right to get a better look at Grayleaf.
She had warm amber eyes, and a nick in her left ear. "Oh! I still think your beautiful!" Grayleaf mewed loudly. Dropping her voice, Emberflame mewed, "But what about the toms? Your a she-cat, your more sensitive than them."
"Oh, you mean Duskfang and Crowpelt? Duskfang has a mate and two kits, so he can be sensitive. But Crowpelt's about as old as you." Grayleaf mewed. "Okay, I'll go." Emberflame mewed.
Ack okay not the best chapter- I just wanted everyone to meet Grayleaf- I might edit this one later on, we'll have to see.
