A long time ago, in a small village in the outskirts of Whales, there lived a man. The man's name was Sam Jones-Smith. Sam was 26; he wasn't especially big or tall, but he was strong. He had black tousled hair, pale skin, and deep green eyes. He lived alone, for he had long since left his home, where he lived with his family, to go and find his fortune somewhere else.
One ordinary day, Sam went to find work. In his search he meets a gang of outlaws who agreed to give him work. Being a good man, he did not agree to this, but then the outlaws convinced him. They tell him of horrible deeds done by the man they were going to rob, and of the great bounty that awaited them. Sam, being ignorant and being blinded by the money to not seeing the trick, fell for their lies. Also, Sam, being young, wanted and needed the money, so, he did as he thought he had to.
When night fell they all went to the man's house. There, Sam had to go in, steal a precious necklace, and burn down the house. "If you fail", whispered the leader of the outlaws, "Then you will burn with the house". Sam whispered back, determinedly, "I will not fail". He went in silently and confidently, he moved through the house like a mouse. He went on like this until he found the necklace, then he lit a torch, and set fire to the house. He ran out of the house, and proudly showed the necklace to the bandits. Sam beamed with pride, for he did not know what awaited him. The outlaws suddenly grabbed him and threw him into the house as it burned. That night, Sam Jones-Smith was thought to have died. Thought...
Many years later Sam Jones-Smith appeared again. This time changed, his skin was burned all over his face, and he was hairless. He looked awfully ugly, his eyes looked old and unnatural and his hairless head was red all over from the burns he got, that terrible night and every single person avoided him. Sam hated how he looked, and he was tired of how people either stared at him or backed away from him. So, tired of his life, he went in search of a cure for his horrible, twisted look. He came across a witch who agreed to make young and handsome again. "But", said the witch, "Beware, beware what you become at dusk, BEWARE!" And with that, he became who he was before the incident. He couldn't believe it! He was young again! But what had the woman said? Bah! He didn't care! He could live again!. What Sam had not learned from his previous experience with the outlaws is that he shouldn't ever do something before thinking about the consequences, and he did exactly that.
That night, Sam was enjoying his sudden youth and was going to a bar to celebrate. It was dusk and Sam decided to stop and enjoy the view. Moments later he felt himself changing, he felt stronger, faster and he became enormous. He looked at his hands, they were big and hairy. Sam panicked, and slowly he lost conscience, and the beast inside him, the same one that had had the guts to burn down the house, took over.
That night an unexpected visitor walked into a bar, a huge and hairy visitor. It was a monster with long sharp claws and an angry snarl on its face, where you could see every single one of its shark-like teeth. It roared angrily as he went into the bar. The first person it saw was a young man drinking mead. It took him by the neck and killed him with one quick swipe of its claws, then, hungrily, it ate the man until there was nothing left of him except its left hand. The rest of the villagers in the bar had been witnessing this bloody scene and panicked, they ran everywhere they could but it always caught them. So, one by one, everyone had been eaten except for their left hands. Then the monster, with blood dripping out of its mouth, roared a deafening roar, loud enough that the whole village heard it, "I am the DUSKBEAST!".
From that moment on, no one in the village went out at dusk again, they locked their doors and hid. Then for many generations, the tale of the Duskbeast was told, to scare children into going to sleep before dusk. But what they missed was that the Duskbeast was still there, waiting, for someone to go after dusk... so he could have another meal again.
Many years later in that same village, in the outskirts of Whales, there was a young lad who was daring enough to go and prove that the legend of the Duskbeast, was only that, a legend. So he decided that on a clear day, he would stay outside after dusk. Everyone in the village told him "Johnny we will miss you", "Johnny you're stupid to do that", "Johnny DON'T". But he didn't listen, being young and bold he went ahead in search of the Duskbeast. Sam was still transforming every dusk, and he knew it. He also knew that everybody feared the Duskbeast, but nobody feared him. He tried to live a normal life and tried not to give away his secret. So when Johnny came out after dusk and stayed out, Sam didn't even notice. He transformed as usual and the monster did what it always did, it roamed around and scratched at doors, hungry for something. Johnny saw the Duskbeast, and seeing it was real he became petrified with fear. He was traumatized. He stayed like this, sitting down, for most of the night. After this the Duskbeast saw him and swiftly walked to him. When the fierce looking monster's face was just inches from Johnny, scared to death, for he knew he was going to die, he closed his eyes. Afterwards, Johnny noticed he was still alive and opened his eyes. He then saw Sam. He whispered, "Is it gone?" Sam answered quickly, "Yes, it is". Johnny asked, doubtfully "Sam, what are you doing here?" Sam didn't answer, he just stared. Johnny stood up and ran, he understood, Sam was the monster. Johnny ran like he had never run before. He went from house to house, telling his story, telling the truth. The whole village went knocking angrily at Sam's door, but when they opened it he was gone. He had run away, somewhere. The Duskbeast was still on the loose.
