The flashbacks of my so called father kept pouring in, like a flowing river. He pushed her and pushed her. All I could hear were the loud sobs of myself, my old self. He pushed her till she fell, till she hit her head and toppled to the ground. That’s all I saw until the world and reality around me came back. I lean back in my desk like nothing happened. Mrs. Weller's kept teaching, but I had no clue what it is. It’s not like it mattered anyway. My knuckles were clenched into tight balls. I glanced up at the clock, 8:34, I grabbed my bag and the bell rang once I was out the door.

Third hour was normal, no drama, no flashbacks… Thank god. It was all just fine. My friend Brian strutted over to me with his football team jacket on, like always. He plopped into the seat next to me and started going on about how some girl turned him down or something. It was funny how he was surprised. “Kaleb!” I heard my name yelled. “Huh?” I said zoning back into reality. “Whats up with you man, c’mon get in with it” I heard Brian say. “Nothing, sorry bro. I’m good now. Just zoned out for a second” I stated. He pat me on the back “There's my bud!”. It may not sound like it but that actually cheered me up. Brian always seemed to cheer me up, I have no clue why, maybe because we have been friends for so long? Since young five's to be exact. Finally, Mr. Howard walked in and instantly started lecturing us on the Ancient Rome culture.

The rest of school was pretty much the same as everyday. Loud, Annoying, Tiring, and Frustrating, ah, high school! A ball of joy. I grabbed my bag and hurried to the locker room. I was already 10 minutes late for Football practice. It was even worse since I was the quarterback, they needed me. “Shoot” I grunted under my breath as I pulled my Jersey on and darted out to the field. “Harvon, you’re late….” He paused for a second “Again”. I could hear the irritation in his voice “I know, I know Coach. Just a little problem. Won’t happen again” I stated quickly, “Right” he said dryly.

The air was cold on my wet, freshly washed hair. I walked to my car, dangling the keys on my index finger. Some guy was standing by the hood with a black hoodie on. “Suspicious” I whispered to myself. I walked slowly to my car. “Hey! Who are you? Why are you stand-” He pulled a pillow case? I think it was over my head. “What the-” Was all I could get out before it all went black, and i felt my wrists being tied together.

I woke up in a dark room. My head was throbbing. I went to get up and fell right back down. “Dang” I whispered to myself. I couldn't see anything. I could feel my wrists tied, but I don’t know. I leaned back against the wall trying to remember what happened. Oh. Wait. He was standing by my car… Then he, he kidnapped me? Why? Who was this? All of my unanswered questions. Well, I am gonna die here. The only light there was, was the little glow from whatever was on the other side of the door. I then suddenly heard footsteps. They were loud yet, silent, the light under the door was blocked in some areas from the feet standing in front of it. I could hear the door knob jiggle a little bit, my heart was racing one million miles. The door knob went silent, and the faint light started showing more when the feet walked away. “ Okay, Okay. Kaleb, don’t freak out. Calm. Breathe” I stuttered out. “I’m all alone”, I took deep breathes and layed my head against the hard wall and let sleep consume me.

I woke up, hoping the lights were on so I could get an idea of where I was.  But no, there wasn't any lights. Not even the light from under the door. I looked over and seen a plate with toast and eggs with a cup of blueberries. A glass of water next to it. How long was I out? I thought to myself. I helped myself not even caring if it was poisoned or drugged. I didn’t care, I was hungry. I was getting incredibly lonely, and I smelled horrible. Even though it's only been a day. The only thing I could hear was my low, deep breaths and the tapping of my fingertips. I want to know who did this, who is it? I want to know why, and how long have they planned this. Do they know me? One hundred questions are rushing through my mind. Did I do something wrong? That's when the light in the hallway flickered on and the door opened.

My jaw hung open as I seen the face of a man I recognized but who is a stranger to my mind. The man I once called dad in my childhood years… before the incident of course. “H-how did you get o-out?” I stuttered as he walked closer to me. I could see the glint of evil in his eye. He kept getting closer. “Stay back” I stumbled out. He stopped walking over to me. “Son..” He said slowly looking at me. “Don’t call me that! I’m not your son. Not anymore Jeann. You know what you did!” I yelled. I was pissed now. How dare he? “Kaleb-” He tried to get out before I glared and he stopped talking and stared down at his feet. “You are one ungrateful little- ugh” He came closer. Close enough to where I could feel his breath in my pale face. “You ready?” he whispered into my ear. I felt something pick into my arm and everything went black from there.

I woke up tied with my ankle tied to a bed. Still dark. Except this room had a window… Its  curtains were closed. I got up and tried to walk to the window but the ankle chain yanked me back. “Agh” I groaned and sat back on the bed. My first balled up as her lifeless body stared at me in my head. Her lips parted and blood surrounding her head. “Kaleb, come one bud. It’s okay. We’re free now” I heard my father say. I was sobbing, I felt sadness consuming me as well as fear. My old self was still sobbing, he gripped my hand but it yanked it back. “Don’t touch me” I screamed. I balled up in the corner and shook back and forth next to my dead mother. I could feel tears streaming down my cheeks. I hate these memories, so much. The flashbacks hurt, they really hurt. I leaned back on the bed and stared into the blackness. I want to go home. To Kathy, To William. To my baby sister, my little brother. All of them. My stomach growled and my head was pounding. I wish this was all just a dream, that I would wake up in my bed, to my little sister and brother playing with toys.

He brung me some food, I refuse to eat it. It's been 2 weeks. I’ve gotten skinnier, I can feel my ribs, I was weak and I could barely stand I had gotten so dizzy. He brings me food everyday, but I refuse to eat. I only drink once and awhile. I’ve lost all my appetite. I have been planning my escape. The chain is almost all the way off. As I get skinnier I can slowly slip out. I’m just waiting for the right chance. I hear him coming to the door. The handle twists and Jeann himself is standing in front of me. “Still not eating I see” He says looking at the still full plate. “You’re gonna get sick Kaleb… You need to eat” He grummbled. “I'm not hungry” I said looking at my hands in my lap. “I want you to let me go. I want to go home” I yelled. He seemed startled “Kaleb…. S- You are home” He said cheerily. “This is not home” I said under my breath. “I'm chained up! That's not very homely to me” I said loudly. He sighed and turned and left.

The door was cracked, Light peeking through, Perfect Chance I thought to myself. I slipped my foot out of the chain and slowly walked over to the door. Peeking my head out. He was nowhere in sight, I could see the front door. My eyes trying to adjust to the light. I walked slowly out and cautiously walked to the door. Quietly as possible. “KALEB!” I heard my name screamed. I ran to the door but he grabbed my arm and ripped me back. I turned and hit him in the nose the blood gushing out of his nose. He grunted and kicked my shin. I fell and quickly got back up hitting him in the gut making him stumble back. I ran out of the door, barefoot in the snow. It was freezing. I looked through the truck windows to see if the keys were in there. They were… Thank you Jesus I screamed in my head. I started the truck and swerved out of the down the long driveway. Making my way to the end of the road. I sped out of the driveway, only to come to a head on collision with some car. My head hit the steering wheel, I laid there my vision blurring, feeling the blood gushing from my head. I seen headlights flashing and cop sirens wiring in the distance before everything drifted away and went black
