Maddie's POV

"Please!!! Mom said I can't go unless you do!" My younger sister Mackenzie pleas with me. I don't even know how she got invited to the party, everyone there is going to be my age. Luckily for my younger sister I am in the mood to let loose, I have a bottle of unopened vodka hidden under my bed and I can hear it singing my name.

"Fine, but you aren't wearing that.." I scrunch my nose up at the revealing silver dress that looks roughly three sizes too small for Mackenzie's body." Go wait in your room, I'll be in to find you an outfit after I am changed. I feel like I haven't been out in months, ever since I graduated high school I've drifted from most of my friends and I'm rarely invited anywhere. Opening my closet reminds me of this as I search through countless expensive outfits that I never get the chance to wear, I select a satin rose-gold coloured bralette and matching skirt pairing the outfit with some blush pumps.

I glance at myself in the hallway mirror, my hair and makeup from my shopping adventures earlier in the day have held up nicely and much to my relief do not need retouching. I strut into my sister's room with high hopes that dressing her will not take too much time. "Mkay Kenz let's make this quick, shall we."

"Mads you look so good! Let me put this look on my Snapchat real quick." Such a typical sixteen-year-old comment. The flash from her iPhone is blinding but I still give her a twirl and blow a kiss to satisfy her social media needs, I do look alright so why not? I begin searching through Mackenzie's closet in an attempt to find something modest but still flattering. I spot the red dress that I got her for her birthday earlier in the year and see that the tags are still on, I know what she's wearing tonight.

"Found it," I announce waving the shimmery dress in the air. By the look on her face, I can tell she forgot I even gave it to her. She nods in agreement before snatching the piece of material from me and scurrying to the bathroom to change. "I'll meet you in the car!" I don't particularly feel like waiting in her room and this way she will know that she needs to hurry up. Ten minutes pass before Mackenzie finally joins me.

"You ready?" she questions.

"I think the real question is are you ready?" I laugh before starting the engine. As Mackenzie reads me the directions to the party and explains which of her friends will be attending my nerves start to kick in. Who am I going to hang out with? I can't guarantee I will meet anyone I know there and I certainly don't want to tag along with my younger sister and her friends. I didn't quite think this through.

Pulling up at the end of a long line of cars I am shocked at just how many people are here, I hope the party isn't full already. As we finally reach the front door of the party I realize that nobody is even guarding it, virtually anybody could just walk in. How dodgy, I keep my thoughts to myself as I enter the crowded house. Mackenzie eyes her friends off almost instantly and I make a point to head straight for the kitchen to pour myself a drink. It's going to be a long night by the looks of things. I notice the marble tiles that decorate the kitchen floors, the person who owns this place must be loaded. My thoughts are suddenly interrupted as I knock into someone.

"What the fuck? Would you watch where you're going!" I look up to see an evidently intoxicated brunette girl clad in the shortest black dress I have ever seen. Before I get the chance to apologize she scoffs and stumbles down the hall. Great.

At first taste, It's apparent that I made my drink a tad bit too strong. Oh well, with the way this night is going I'll need it strong. I down my first cup and pour another. The music at this party is actually alright and I find myself wandering into the crowd of teenagers to join in on the dancing. I'm starting to enjoy the party after all. But of course my bladder decides to interrupt my fun, I also have no idea where the bathroom is. I make up my mind that I will ask a random and hope for the best.  I walk over to a tall guy who is facing away from me and tap him gently on the shoulder.

"Yes?" He says seemingly annoyed before turning around to greet me. Wow, he's beautiful. His features light up as he takes in my appearance. "Well?" the brown-eyed boy smirks. It takes me a few seconds to realize that I'm staring and in fact not using my words.

"Oh uh" I stammer, "Do you know where I could find the bathroom?" Why am I nervous? I'm almost never nervous and considering I've had alcohol it's even odder that I am.

"Yeah, follow me." I had expected him to just give me directions but I guess this works too. He leads me upstairs and down the corridor to find that the bathroom is currently being occupied by a girl who seems to be throwing up her insides. Peachy, that's just peachy, she doesn't look like she or her friends will be done anytime soon either. "If you want you can use my ensuite bathroom?" He suggests pointing to a room further down the hall.

"You live here?" What are the chances?

"No.. Well sort of, I just have a room here, It's my parents' house but I live in an apartment not too far from here." He must be doing pretty well to be out of home already, I wonder how old he is.

"How old are you?" Drunk Maddie is incredibly intrusive. He only chuckles at my forwardness.

"I'm nineteen, do you wanna use my bathroom?" I nod in response, he must think I'm a lunatic. Once he shows me to his room I stand outside his ensuite and realise I don't even know the name of this mystery boy.

"My name is Maddie, Maddie Ziegler, nice to meet you," I wink and hold out my hand for him to shake. The alcohol is really taking a toll on me. Luckily he seems quite amused by it.

"Jack Kelly, the pleasure is all mine love." He returns my wink which makes me giggle, this is such an abnormal exchange.

"Okay, I have to pee now brb," I almost facepalm myself for using an acronym out loud.  Jack's bathroom smells like lavender and I am pleasantly surprised.

"Jack! I knew I would find you in here baby, what are you doing all alone?" I recognise that voice as the girl who I bumped into earlier in the night, this is just perfect. Baby? That stings, I guess they're a thing, Jack could do so much better. I hardly know him but most people could do better than her.

"Yeah, here I am." Jack doesn't sound pleased in the slightest, maybe he doesn't really like her. I don't know why I'm  thinking so much into this, I couldn't care less about their relationship. "No Kalani don't go in the-" before I know it she is opening the door just as I'm pulling up my skirt,  what impeccable timing she has.

"Jack! What is this bitch doing in here?" She shrieks and the high pitched sound is just as annoying as before. How do I get myself into these situations?

"I was just leaving." I brush past the both of them and feel Jack follow me out of the room.

"Jack where the hell do you think you're going?" She yells even louder yet again. I pick up the pace, I want to avoid being in the middle of this mess, I'm way out of my league here.

"Maddie wait!" Jack quickly catches up to me and I spin around with every intention to thank him and tell him goodbye. "Give me your phone, I will make this up to you." Make what up to me? He was only letting me use his bathroom.

"What? It's okay you don't have to it wa-"

"Please?" staring into his eyes I can tell how serious he is and I don't feel like he will let it go until I give in. Whatever it takes to leave this party as soon as possible. I whip out my phone, unlock it and hand it to him. He swiftly sends a text message to what I can only assume is his phone. "Thank you, enjoy the rest of your night Ziegler." He says cooly after giving back my phone.

That whole encounter has confused the fuck out of me and honestly, all I want to do is go home and sleep. I manage to find Mackenzie reasonably fast and she informs me that she has organised to stay the night with one of her friends. Works for me.

The drive home leaves me with thoughts of an olive-skinned boy with charming eyes and his bitchy girlfriend. This night has been so messy that I even forgot to grab my vodka from the fridge, it's annoying because that shit is expensive and it's probably empty by now. I soon arrive home and waste no time climbing into my bed and letting sleep engulf me.
