I walked quietly into the house, looking cautiously to see if anyone was home.
"Azza?" I heard a familiar voice say.
My mom came from out of the kitchen with a worried look on her face.
"Mom?" I said in confusion. "Shouldn't you be at work?"
"Yes, but it's fine if I have a day off. I needed it."
She walked into the kitchen and opened the cabinet. Following behind her, she pulled out a bottle of red wine and a wine glass.
"Wait." I said. "Where's dad?"
She placed the bottle and glass down on the table.
"He's out with his screwed-in-the-mind friends." she replied. "You know, I wish he would stop hanging out with them all the time."
She began to pour the wine into her glass.
"Going out to bars and strip clubs.." she muttered under she breath.
She took a deep breath in and I could see her face beginning to get red and her eyes beginning to water. She sat on her chair and held her wine glass in her hand, taking a sip. She closed her eyes and swallowed.
"Azza, go to your room." she ordered.
Without a word, I hurried up to my room. I sat on my bed, wondering what I would do now. I turned to my window and viewed outside. I could see Jessie in his bedroom from his bedroom window. He took off his grey shirt, revealing his muscled body. He held a black shirt I assumed he was going to put on. He then looked up. Shoot. I immediately looked away. My cheeks began to flush red. I then heard knocks so I looked back up to see him knocking on his window to get my attention.
We both opened our windows.
"Checking me out, were you?" He joked, putting his black shirt on.
"No!" I said.
We both laughed.
"This town is pretty chill. Do you know any cool places down here?" he asked.
"Yeah, actually. There's a few places I used to go." I answered. "There's tons of parks and cafes. There's also the town pool, that I would go to 24/7."
He rested his arms on the window seal.
"Why don't you go to there anymore?"
I shrugged.
"I guess it's not really my thing anymore."
"Jessie!" I heard someone yell from inside his house.
"I'll see you around, Azza." he said, then shutting his window and walking out of his room.
I smiled and laid down on my bed. He wasn't so bad. I closed my eyes and positioned myself comfortably and drifted to sleep.

"YOU DIRTY DRUNK! You come to my home completely wrecked, and I can't take it anymore! Andrew, you need to get yourself together! Get a job, will you? Get a life!"
I sat up from my bed, hearing the screams and shouts from my parent downstairs. I stood up and dashed to my door and locked it.
"I should of never married you, you coward!" my mom shouted.
Tears began to run down my cheeks in fear. I grabbed my blanket and surrounded myself in it.
"You're such a bitch!" my dad yelled back.
"Andrew.. get your hands off of me!"
I heard a slap.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" my mom screamed.
I closed my eyes and plugged my ears but I could still hear every shout and cry. Then it turned silent. I once again heard heavy foot steps coming upstairs as I had heard many times previously, followed by knocking.
"AZZA, OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR RIGHT NOW!"
I covered myself in my sheets and backed up closer to the wall. He was banging the door and screaming.
"Stop.. stop stop.." I mumbled.
"OPEN THIS DOOR, AZZA!" He screamed. "OPEN IT!"
Shaking, I quickly turned around and began to open the window. My hands were so shaky and cold that it was difficult to pull the window open. I turned back around. He was hitting the door so hard it began to shake.
"You're going to regret this, Meiram." He shouted, laughing like a maniac does. "Now.. let...me... IN!"
I finally opened the window and I swiftly stepped out into the dark starry night. As strong as I could, I shut the window and began to slide down the roof. Tears shot down my cheeks and I shivered in the windy weather. As I sat on the roof contemplating what to do next, I heard someone's voice.
"Azza?"
I looked up. I saw the new neighbor who had opened his window. He looked at me in concern.
"Stay there." he said, shutting his window and leaving his room.
I sat there, looking back at my bedroom window in hopes that my father hadn't entered the room. Luckily, he hadn't.
"Azza!" I heard Jessie shout from under me.
I looked down to see Jessie outside.
"Okay, can you jump?" He asked.
I nodded, crying too hard to speak. I carefully leaped off the roof which wasn't too far off the ground, landing in the grass next to me. I then fell onto the grass and covered my face in my hands. I was so scared, and I couldn't stop crying. He bent over to me and wrapped his arm around me.
"It's okay.." he comforted me. "Why are you crying? Why were you on your roof?"
"We need to go." I said, ignoring his questions. "I just need to go."
He nodded, not questioning me. He stood up and grabbed my hand to help me up. He held onto my hand as he led me into his house, placing his finger near his mouth to motion "be quiet." We walked into his room and he carefully closed his door. We both sat on his bed and I wiped the tears from my cheeks.
"Close your blinds, please." I begged.
"Of course," he said, standing up towards his window.
Shutting the blinds, he began to speak.
"So, can you tell me what that was about?" He asked, sitting back on the bed with me.
"I.." I stuttered. "I don't know.."
I began to cry again.
"It's okay! You don't need to tell me right now."
He wrapped his arms around me and I leaned against him, my tears staining his shirt. He must of been so confused, but he let me cry.
