I stood in the freezing cold wondering whether to knock on the door or not. I was in front of the 'Why Don't We' house, as they call it, thinking about the consequences. Before I could even get the chance to think of all of the consequences the door opened. Standing in the doorway was a fairly tall male with bleached hair. What drew me in were his blue eyes, those eyes that I knew all too well... through the Internet...
"Hey, so good to meet you. Bad time, but good at the same time if you know what I mean," Corbyn told me as he wrapped his arms around me in a soft, diligent hug. We released from the hug and someone yelled from the living room.
"Corbyn who's at the door?" A voice sounded from down the hall. Corbyn looked at me and smiled, "Better go meet the others before getting down to business."
Their house was beautiful. They had marble floors and wooden walls. A golden chandelier hung above my head. Velvet couches surrounded the living room, and a huge flat screen took up one wall. On one of the couches sat a boy with brown shoes and round sunglasses. Sunglasses inside, that's... a concept.
The boy finally looked at me, noticing my presence and his face seemed to light up. The curly headed boy on the couch opposite of him, with his back to me, looked at the blue-eyed boy in confusion as he stood abruptly from the couch.
"ATHENA!" The boy screamed and his glasses flung off his face. I noticed that he was Daniel, and I couldn't control the smile that was forcing itself onto my face. I ran over to Daniel and our bodies collided. A herd of footsteps were heard, but I didn't pull away from the hug that Daniel and I were sharing. I felt multiple arms wrap around me, suffocating me into Daniel's chest.
As they let go of the hug, I hugged Jonah and Jack individually. I felt eyes pierce the back of my head, and I turned around to meet the eyes of the person I was dreading to see. Everyone seemed to quiet down, and time moved in slow motion.
"You got this," I heard Jonah whisper to me. That comforted me a bit.
Zach stood 10 feet away from me in the same red hoodie he was wearing when I met him the first time. Zach was a wreck, tear stains were on his face, his eyes held huge bags, and he got skinnier since the last time we saw each other. I didn't look or act any better than he did, but I couldn't show it. I had to be the strong one...
I couldn't take it anymore, I ran into his arms. A new coat of tears fell from my eyes and stained his hoodie. I felt his tears drip into my hair, but I didn't care at the moment. All I wanted was Zach. Before I could let my feeling wash over me, I had a reality check. He cheated on me. He cheated on me. He cheated on me.
I slightly pushed him off of me, sadness, hurt, and anger taking control of me.
"How could you..." I frowned, my voice softer than what I wanted it to be. Zach didn't answer and I looked him in his eyes, "Why?"
"I didn't..." He mumbled. "I didn't. She was my cousin, and I was helping her become... less sad... at the death of her husband."
That took me by surprise. Then, the girl came down the stairs. She was wearing a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and had tears in her eyes. As she stood slightly behind Zach, I saw the resemblance between them. The anger was soon replaced with sympathy. I looked at the four boys sitting on the couch and they nodded their heads, a look in each of their eyes that I couldn't register. I looked back at Zach to see him looking at the floor, the girl doing the same. I couldn't stand being in this room anymore, I was angry with myself for jumping to conclusions so easily.
Without stopping myself, I ran throughout the house finding the closest exit. I came across multiple glass windows, a door on the far end. I opened the door, and ran out onto the beautiful lawn. The grass was full of dew and a gorgeous green, a stone path made an endless pattern around the exterior of an eight foot deep pool, two pool chairs were placed five feet away from the pool.
I walked around aimlessly and sat on a boulder that was around the side of the house. I let out a quiet sob, and no matter how hard I tried to stop crying, I couldn't. I heard the sound of a door opening, and quieted my breathing and movements. No way was I going to let this person find me. I kept my head in my knees, and tried to make myself invisible, of course it didn't work.
I felt an arm wrap around my back, and I looked up slightly. The girl was looking out over the city of Los Angeles, paying me no attention but paying me all of her attention at the same time. I was wondering why she was comforting me...
"Hey," She started, finally deciding to look at me. "Are you okay?" She looked me in my eyes.
I nodded my head, failing to notice the person standing at a safe distance behind me. I buried my head further into my arms and the girl's grip tightened around me.
"I'm sorry." I spoke softly, my voice cracking. She looked at me, a small smile playing at her lips. She just nodded and I was thankful, because I didn't want to speak anymore. Suddenly the girl's head snapped up, and Zach stood there slightly smiling at his cousin and me. "I'll take it from here." He told her and she nodded.
"Before I go, my name is Sarah Divincci." She whispered in my ear, then got up and walked back into the house.
"Zach, I-" I started, but he cut me off by slightly singing to me. His voice was melodic, and the words rolled right off of his tongue. It was only until later that I recognized the song.
I keep craving, craving
You don't know it but it's true
Can't get my mouth to say the words they wanna say to you
This is typical of love
Can't wait anymore
Won't wait I need to tell you
How I feel when I see us together forever
In my dreams
You're with me
We'll be everything I want us to be
And from there, who knows?
Maybe this will be the night that we kiss
For the first time
Or is that just me
and my imagination?
And in that moment, I realized that I wanted Zachary Dean Herron forever. I proved it by softly pressing my lips to his. I guess it was the night that we kiss for the first time.
