"ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG!" the crowd chanted, calling for the lovely and talented boys to come back on stage and serenade them. I chanted along, hypnotized by their music. Finally the boys ran back on, first Adam, then Ross, George and Matt. The crowd went wild for them. They played Chocolate and Girls once again and then they asked if anyone knew their song "You" and a lot of girls started to cheer. Then Matty asked if anyone knew the words and I started to cheer along with everyone else but...no one was cheering. I naturally turned red and everyone was staring at me at the bar with a coke in hand.
"Do you know the words, pretty lady at the bar?" I could feel 800 sets of eyes looking at me.
"Yeah..." I said sheepishly. Matty smiled.
"Come on up!" with my coke vodka mix running through me I had a sudden adrenaline rush and ran up to the stage. Matt grabbed two stools for us to sit on and he handed me a mic. He said thank you to me and I couldn't speak for anything. my adrenaline confidence that once ran through me was gone. He asked me my name and
I replied "It's Genevieve." He smiled at me
"GENEVIEVE IS GONNA SING YOU WITH ME IS THAT ALRIGHT EVERYONE?" He asked the crowd and the crowd cheered. I must've looked nervous because he put his hand over mine and squeezed. Then he started singing
"And you're a liar, atleast all of your friends are, and so am I." He cued for me to join him so I sang
"Well it's my party, and I'll cry till the end. You must try harder than kissing all of my friends. You." I could not believe what was happening. The audience was clapping along as we sang.
"It takes a bit more, Yeah it takes a bit more than you." Matt had a sparkle in his eye and he sang to me and only me and I sang back, only to him. I have a soft voice so I tried to sing in harmony with him. He looked impressed but it could've been the booze. After the song ended he said
"Goodnight and thank you for the amazing evening New York!" The crowd cheered and he grabbed my hand and pulled me backstage with him instead of me walking off the way I came up. My ears were ringing so when Matty tried talking to me I couldn't really hear what he said. He pulled me into a corner and said
"You have a really nice voice Genevieve. I'm Matt by the way but I think you knew that by now... We've been looking for a soprano to remake You with and this may seem like a lot to handle right now but I think you'd be a perfect fit." He smiled at me. I didn't know what to say. He was so perfect and he was asking me to sing with him!
"I ...uh...hey!" Was all I could say. He laughed a little.
"So will you?" He asked.
"Yeah of course I will I can't even fathom this right now." he laughed again. He had this perfect laugh that sounded like a god and just being inches from him made my insides warm.
"What's your full name?" he asked me. "Genevieve Terracroce" I responded.
"Well Genevieve Terracroce how about you come outside and get to know the boys? You caught my eye from the minute I came onstage." He said. I could swear there was a tinge of blush in his face. I was definitely blushing and giggled.
"Did you come with a friend or anything?" he asked.
"No my apartment is only a few blocks away so I didn't need to have anyone with me." I said hoping he'd ask me to stay for an after party or whatever they were doing.
"Do you have a curfew? Because we're having a bit of an after party later but it'll be late so I don't want to keep you." He said playing with his hands. "No I live with a roommate actually I go to University here so I don't live with my parents." I said to him.
"That's so rad wow do you want anything to drink? Beer, wine, water?" He smiled.
"A beer is fine, so American and unclassy of me." I said frowning.
"Not at all, any girl that's cool with drinking beer cool with me, especially and american." he winked at me. "wanna meet the guys?" he asked me. "yeah sure!" I said and he took my hand and brought me outside. The guys and some others surrounded the bonfire.
"We've found our new singer for 'You'!" Matty said. Everyone smiled and congratulated me and at this point I was very red but still smiling. George got up and came over to me. He congratulated me and said to Matt
"Nice catch." looking me over and smirking. I had no idea how to feel and Matt shot him a look. Matt then asked if I wanted to sit down by the bonfire and I said yes. What was I doing here with all these talented people? At home I was barely anything but a nerd and some guys had taken an interest in me but nothing had ever happened except for a few.
"Wanna go sit? It's kinda chilly." he asked me.
"Yeah definitely." I responded. He took my hand in his and led me to two lawn chairs that were low to the ground and let you lay back in them. I smoothed out the skirt of my dress and sat down next to him. THe chilly October air was no match for my dress and thin cardigan, I must say I was freezing and the fire didn't help much.
"Do you need a jacket?" Matty asked me.
"It's alright I don't want to be a bother." I said back laughing.
"Here take my jacket, I insist." he said holding it out to me. "Don't want you to get sick before recording." He said with a grin. I accepted the jacket even though I felt extremely terrible about it.
"One second, now I'm cold let me go grab us some blankets and hot cocoa, sounds good?" he asked me, "Sounds awesome." I said back to him and he smiled and ran onto the tour bus.
"Gosh how did I get so lucky." I thought to myself. Matthew was perfect in every way. I saw him run out of the bus with a blanket and a pack of cigarettes in hand.
"Hey I could only find one blanket so we can share it but we have to move our chairs together. Is that cool with you?" he asked me.
"Yeah that's totally cool with me!" I said pushing our chairs together. We sat together, trying to keep warm.
"So where are you originally from have you always lived in New York?" he asked me.
"Nope I lived in a small town in Virginia just outside of the capital, Raleigh. Then I moved here when I got a partial scholarship to NYU for music therapy." Our faces were really close at this point and he asked me
"Why music therapy?"
"Why did I choose music therapy as my major?"
"Yeah."
"Because I want to help people the way music helped me."
Our faces were so close and I felt like we were the only people in the world at that very moment.
He was staring into my eyes and I felt like he was looking into my soul. He put his hand over mine,
"I'm sorry you went through whatever you went through." he said. I smiled slightly, "Thanks matt." I said.
"Matty... you could call me Matty." he said.
"Alrighty Matty." I smiled.
"You're really pretty, Genevieve."
WAS I HEARING THIS CORRECTLY. MATT HEALY SAID I WAS PRETTY.
"Thank you....you're not so bad your self." I said in the sincerest way possible. He was such a beautiful rock star and he made me feel so secure. At this point out faces were so close and Matt angled his face so that he could kiss me. He looked me in the eyes and leaned in.
