I'm in the middle of the aisle in a white puffy dress, my hair is fine, my nails are done, and my shoes are-- I look down and see a belly, this can't be my belly it... no... it is! Frightened I back up accidentally bumping this old man, ugly but rich you can see it in his rigid smile, before I can say anything he reaches down and kisses me.
I wake up with sweat all over my pjs, I look at the clock; 7:35 am
"Shit" I say as I hurry to get ready for another day of school. Rushing pass my busy mom I open the door and head to the bus.
I'm not really a school type of girl but if it means getting away from my complaining parents then I'll go.
In school we go over rigid motions and Charles IVI-- or was it IXV maybe it was IXI I honestly don't know, school was just a blur, I want to get my education but it's pretty hard when you got people judging you everywhere you go, you see in this town money is everything, if you got money you got a future. When a girl turns 17 she is then married-- cancel that, she's basically sold into a relationship with a wealthy man no matter what age until he gets tired of her, then, if she's lucky, she's abandoned to let the wounds he caused her, physically and mentally heal. The sad part is that sometimes it never does.
My mom is a victim. She grew up in a poor family in the village as the oldest of 5 children. She met my dad, who was 30, at 18 years old when she was out shopping for bread, he promised to bring her fortune, he promised to bring her happiness, he promised to be the best he could be.
Her parents, who grew desperate for financial aid quickly agreed to the marriage and wasted no time planning it. 2 months later they were officially husband and wife.
They've been together for 18 years now but I know he doesn't love her and she doesn't love him back. She tries to be the best for me, she tries to pretend like she's okay but I can tell that their marriage is taking a toll on her. You'd think it's like the shit in the Disney movies you watch when the prince finally realizes that he's in love with a girl he pulled from the street and they live happily ever after right? Well you couldn't have been more wrong.
