Some women are lost in the fire...Some women are built from it. - Michelle K

Fire. This simple thing took my home, my people, my family away from me. I will forever be scarred  by its flame.

Romans were the one to start the the fire not long after they had taken the second batch of young males to be their soldiers. Those of us that escaped became slaves and those that remained....were scattered to the winds as ash.

The Iazyges were a strong tribe, nomads. We were the best scouts and hunters...learning from the animals around us. This was the only thing that kept us alive on these harsh plains and now it was the only thing that kept the rest of us from joining our families.

At the age of five and ten, I was one of the few females who were taught how to fight and to hunt. I followed in my best friend's footsteps becoming a hunter and tracker, of sorts. I was better suited to close combat than ranged but both were better than the Romans that had captured us.

{You need to rest Zofsira!} One of the elders murmured to me as I walked the length of our group, as much as my chains would allow. {You are our only defender and you cannot be exhausted!}

My cat like eyes met hers before bowing in acknowledgement and curling myself around a few of the children. I remained in a half awake state while they slept peacefully.

Thoughts of those whom had been taken ran swiftly though my head and I finally succumbed to full sleep sometime near dawn.

"UP!" The crack of a whip woke me near instantly and I shot to my feet, snarling.
